This works, and it’s something to cherish
This has been an incredible resource for my toddler and I. Weaning has been such a daunting task, but my daughter loves the moon so when I found this it was perfect! I find her reading (looking at the pictures) it throughout the day on her own and she asks me to read it every night it’s apart of our night time routine. I am so thankful to this author for making weaning a beautiful celebration of a wonderful journey of nursing. I think it prepares toddlers for change and encourages empathy which is so genius. I can’t recommend this enough.

Great for breastfed toddlers
Works amazing! My daughter was nursing for nap time and bed time but also wanting to nurse all night. She initially hated this book but then started asking for it as we got closer to her 2nd birthday. We had one last feed to sleep on her birthday and she has done great with it. Cannot recommend this book enough. I think it really helps them mentally prepare.

My toddler is obsessed! Beautiful story, fun to read, stunning illustrations!
We got this book a few weeks before we started weaning (at 21 months old). She immediately loved this book. And weaning went really smoothly, we think, partly because of this book. We weaned about 4 weeks ago and she still asks us to ready this book multiple times per day. I am sick of it, but its really helping her make sense of everything so we keep reading. Also she's never been this excited about ANY book before, so from a literacy stand point - this book is a big win for us! Even my almost 5 year old is starting to say the lines with me from memory (the rhymes help with that!). Highly recommend!

So helpful!
This is a beautiful book which helped me wean my last baby. I wasn't sure how to go about it and had a lot of emotions regarding weaning and this book helped put those anxieties at ease by giving me a plan! The story is so sweet, well written and the illustrations are beautiful. There's a part in the back for parents giving suggestions on how to use the book for successful gentle weaning which so aligned with our parenting philosophy. I knew I was ready when I could read the part where they both let the magic go and didn't sob! Haha. My baby nursed for 2 years 7 months and the ritual of sending it back to the moon was a tangible event we could talk about when he felt the urge to nurse. He felt really proud of himself and would exclaim, "Back to the moon!" And point up at the sky. We modified the ritual (because helium is too expensive lol) and put glow sticks in a balloon and blew it up, tied it to a place positioned within sight of the moon and I told him "Once all the light fades from the balloon, that means all the magic has returned to the moon!" My older child also enjoyed this ritual and added to the excitement. It also have him a narrative about his weaning process too (he self weaned when I got pregnant with my second). They both enjoyed the book and this ritual so much and I can't recommend this enough! We modified the story to fit our language around nursing , so instead of booby moon/booby milk we called it milky moon/milky milk.

Helped wean my toddler off the boob at 2 years old!
This book is amazing. I nursed my daughter for over 2 years and to say that she was obsessed with the boob is an understatement. We read it for about 2 months and it really helped me wean my daughter when I truly thought there was no end. I will say that at first she refused to read the book after the first time. Probably because she didn’t like what it was about. We didn’t do the balloon ceremony thing, but I would remind her that mama’s booby milk went to the moon whenever she would ask to nurse. At 2.5 years old, she still asks to read the book and enjoys it.I only took one star off because the book is very cheaply printed. Regardless it was still worth the money because of how well it helped me wean my daughter.

Genius! It actually worked.
This book was my last hope. My toddler was 3 years and 4 months old the day we had her ‘mama milk goes away day party’, and to my surprise it went off without a hitch and worked.Prior to this I had tried two other times to wean and it always went horribly. Lots of crying, no sleep, frustration and giving up.As other reviewers mentioned, I used white out and changed the wording to fit our needs so that whomever read the book would read it the same. We had been to a few friend’s birthdays so she was very excited about getting cake and a couple gifts. We got a few balloons, one of them being a big star that was set in a special place and framed the magical mama milk balloon.Aside from a couple questions about why the moon needed milk when it doesn’t have a mouth, she got the gist of what was going to happen. :)Later that night after bath I told my daughter we could have one more mama milk time then we would let the balloon go and it would be gone. We settled in for what I imagined would be an emotional last session, only for her to immediately stand up and say, “let’s go let the balloon go!”. I asked, “are you sure?! Once it’s gone there will be no more mama milk.” She replied, “ yeah, I’m good. Let’s go!”we drove out to a clearing, I explained again, “Okay, once the magic goes away to the moon mama milk is gone. Are you ready?” My toddler swiftly grabbed the balloon and yelled, “let’s do this!” Lol she was much stronger than I in that moment. She let it go and watched in wonderment while I wiped away a few tears. We got back in the car and got settled in at home. I laid down with her thinking it was going to be a rough go getting her to sleep but she settled in and fell asleep in about 7 min. No crying, no protesting… just went to sleep.I was in shock, and still am when I think about it. We did stop her naps when we took this on which helped her be tired and ready for bed.She would talk about the day and ask about mama milk occasionally for about three weeks. She only ever cried the second night in the middle of the night when she had a wake up but it wasn’t for long.It has been about four months though now it feels like a lifetime ago.I am so grateful for this book. Sending so many blessings to the life saving author!
