I can't be certain but I suspect you purchased it recently. If that's the case I would send it back as I did and demand a new one. To make the lid so cheaply, with the thin 1/16 inch plastic clasp is an outrage and a utter design fail. The cup should be pulled from sale on this website.

how long can it keep water cold ?

Not very long. We put ice in it but that melts pretty fast too. It’s not insulated.
