I've been using Mobil 1 for a while now. I have sent a couple of samples to Blackstone labs at about 12,000 miles, and the results came back that the oil was still in normal limits, with a good amount of the anti wear protectants. I think it pays for itself, especially in cold weather and short trips: the oil is "supposedly" better flowing before it gets warm. But, I have to take the word of others, I don't know. And if you really can safely go 15k and one year, well, then definitely it pays with half the oil changes. Here's the weird thing: Blackstone labs gets asked "all the time" about what oil is best: they always say: all modern oils are great, and do not recommend any over others, including synthetic. So: it seems they should know. But I like the fact that apparently this oil is supposedly formulated for extended use. FOLLOWUP: I went further than I'd planned on last oil change: 19,000 miles. Sent sample to Blackstone Labs: came back with glowing report: oil completely within normal limits, still plenty of anti wear additives, no evidence of wear or problems. Suggested I could go 21,000 miles next time. HOWEVER: Be aware this was in a vehicle that does mostly easy highway driving, so your results could vary!

It was not what I wanted. I wanted 10w40 but when I tried to make the quantity 3 gallons it changed the viscosity to 5w30. Very deceitful!!!!!

No complaints, other than the high price. My new (to me) used car seems to run “smoother” and a tad quieter the minute I switched from conventional oil to Mobil1.

Been using Mobil 1 for about three weeks — engine feels smoother and starts easier. Too early for a full judgment, but first impression is great. Definitely seems like high-quality oil.
