Incredible phone, a joy to use.
Very pleased with this phone. Very quick at loading apps and very responsive. Fingerprint reader I've found works perfectly. Has a headphone socket and SD card slot which many of the new phones that come out these days don't have. Having those was important to me. Already comes with 256GB . The 360 stereo surround sound from the actual phone speakers is unbelievably good when playing music or watching something on netflix, Disney + ect. Very respectable loudness from the phone speakers which was not so good on my old Sony, this one is much better. Battery life isn't to bad easily lasting a day. I'm still left with over 40% charge after a day of general use. The screen ratio is different to other big screen phones. Which makes the phone look tall and thinner. I actually prefer this, as it fits in to my pocket easier and is perfect for viewing films the way they're ment to be viewed. This phone is a joy to use. It feels premium quality. Very happy with this purchase 😁

This is not a phone with a good camera
This is not a phone with a good camera. It's the other way around. It's a camera with an in built phone😂 honestly I just love this product. Never disappoints when it comes to taking good pictures. Some if's here and there but for the price I managed to get it for I think it's a fair deal. And to be honest I'm not a professional phone reviewer. I hope the pics justify.

Screen damaged
After owning this phone for 36 days (my first Sony), I noticed in specific lighting conditions, that there are four parallel minor scratches on the screen surface. I have been so careful with this new expensive phone, that I don't believe I did anything to cause those scratches. Therefore, they must have been there from the start, and it was only due to the specific lighting conditions on the 36th day of owning it, that I noticed them. Now I can't not see them! I have contacted Sony, and they said I can send it for repair, but may be charged for it depending on whether the assessor determines the damage is not covered by the warranty. If it's not covered by the warranty, and I decide the quote is too expensive, then I have to pay to have the phone returned to me, plus a handling fee! To start with, I don't think after 36 days of owning a phone (that must have been damaged from the start), that having it repaired is acceptable. Secondly, how do they determine if the damage is covered by warranty or not? They said I could send some pictures in, but the scratches are so light, that I don't think they would even show up in a photo. So if Sony say the damage wasn't there from new, my question would be, after being so careful with the phone, how has it ended up with scratches on it after just a few weeks. I wonder if there is a problem with the Gorilla Victus glass on these phones, that they are easily lightly scratched after such a short period of ownership, even if you are really careful with it. What would it be like after a year, and being less careful with it. If the screen is this fragile, why don't Sony put a screen protector on it in the factory. I've always had screen protectors on my phones, but when I got the Sony, I thought it's got the latest Gorilla glass, why put a protector on such a high quality 4k screen, that's only going to reduce the quality. I have read other posts on the internet of people complaining that after owning the Sony Xperia 1 III for a few weeks, having been really careful with it, they've also noticed minor scratches on the screen under certain lighting conditions. So they could have had a damaged screen from new, and didn't notice it until under the specific lighting conditions, or the glass really is that fragile. If after reading this, you still decide to purchase this phone, I would recommend checking it on delivery under a strong overhead light source, to confirm it's not scratched. Then before even breathing on the screen, let alone touching it, put a screen protector on it!

Great phone if settings are right
Superb phone ,when some settings are changed from default, see photo's for my preferred settings.I leave it on Standard mode as the the 4K comes on automatically for Netflix and photo's. Change the White balance from default cool to medium (which is the old standard setting on my previous Sony Xperia XZ premium) for far brighter display.I had to change both font and screen size from default to Large, for me the defaults were far to small .Dsee ultimate is my favourite for music ,it really does enhance all the music playback to sound so clear removing any digital nasties, Really important is to turn on the Refresh rate from the out of the box default setting which was off, this maxamises the smooth action and picture quality that this phone is designed for,but there is no point in turning it off unless you only want to make phone calls and not bother using the superb technology this Xperia is designed for? Lastly for me I leave the camera mainly on the basic mode settings for instant selfies and normal mobile user friendly action that I'm used to .The other camera and video options are top of the range for a mobile ,if you are into them ? Now for my not so good points ,it is a battery drainer big you watch slot of Netflix,Amazon Prime and tube ,but for normal Facebook and Google use the battery is ok .my big disappointment is the selfie camera is only 12mp,why on a flagship is this so bad ,even on my old Xperia XZ premium the selfie camera was a better13mp.Apart from that it's a fantastic mobile a superb size, very easy to hold and with a headphone Jack and SD card it's my perfect upgrade .one more thing is I recommend getting a Spiegen case ,a perfect fit , wonderful protection and a lovely feel to hold ,the flush cut out for the camera really evens and stabilises the back of the phone .

Good phone
Overall, a good phone, everything works. Not so sure about the google assistant button. Camera can be fiddly and not as easy as other brands. However, take the time to learn the camera and it can produce some amazing shots. Audio, as always with recent Xperia phones is awesome

Had if for a few days
Had to send it back because it appeared to me that the battery was draining too fast and it comes with Facebook preinstalled and I don't think you can delete it. On the plus side, it comes with a powerful processor (Qualcomm) and it didn't lag when I asked it to do something I like Sony phones and had one in the past but sent it back because I think it was too expensive for what i had in my hand! Sony, drop the price and I might reconsider buying it :-) UPDATE It went down in price to £999 so I bought it! Now I've had it longer ( a week) I will say a few more things! The all important battery - I lasts longer than I previously thought, normal usage ( one or two 20 min calls, email reading, general internet browsing and it lasted most of the day) I charge it overnight on slow charge ( I believe it makes the battery have a longer life) The camera - it gives a true image of the subject, not bright or vibrant or artificial, if you want you can do all the enhancement later, so the camera is good, especially the telephoto, with a bit of cropping it gives a good close up! The fingerprint sensor is super fast but just choose your phone cover carefully as it can inhibit the finger on the sensor! The speed - it's fast, yes it is indeed, whether it's 5G or 4G the phone reacts quick! The phone is long and sticks slightly out of normal size pockets but hey, when watching a video on YouTube, that bigness is brilliant! The speakers are true to life, absolutely great audio whether music or a caller's voice! I can't find facial security lock ( I don't think it has it actually) which is a pity! It's a Sony, they have a good history of tech! UPDATE I sent the phone back because the fingerprint sensor soon became grubby with daily usage and lessened its sensor ability which then made some Apps refuse to open!

Flawless performance
Have had the Xperia 1III for a few months and it can only be described as flawless. Screen is stunning, pin sharp and vibrant, performance day to day has been faultless, form factor is very comfortable, and the feature list is actually complete, no missing functions due to "courage". Battery life is sufficient for a full work day of normal phone use sans gaming which I don't do nor do I use the camera; security updates have been steady each month. Overall its been a fantastic device because it just gets out of the way and let's me get on with using the functions I want with no drama. It's a pity the tech world in general disparage anything that's not the big two phone makers but as long as Sony keeps true to their philosophy I will choose an Xperia smartphone.

Cannot fault this phone...
My last three phones have all been Sony Xperia: Z; 10 Plus; 1 (iii); I remain as impressed with my device today (more so even) as I was with my other devices during the previous 12 years. The camera is second to none, as is the camcorder (I know, right?) and the battery lasts a full day, and then some. I have nothing but positives to report when discussing this phone, and I heartily recommend it. Also, given the phone's high price tag, for those who qualify, Amazon offers a reasonable payment plan with monthly installments. So, there's no excuse, grab your Xperia 1 (iii) today. Welcome to the next generation of mobile phones 🤟
