Can anyone tell me the meaning of the swan?

Saraswati usually uses a swan as her vehicle. It is said that the sacred swan has a sensitive beak that enables it to distinguish milk from a mixture of milk and water. Therefore swan symbolizes the power to discriminate between good and bad, right and wrong, the valuable and useless. She is the Hindu Goddess of Wisdom. It is said she helps those who are in studying or need of support to gain wisdom .

what is the statue made of?

I don't know the composition breakdown, but it appears to be ceramic or porcelain. However, it is not shiny (no glaze finish). Its a very porous, matte finish.

This is a lovely piece. It is smaller than I thought it might be. It seems to me to be a bit delicate which might just be my perception. I personally would not keep it outside but I have a lot of dogs who like to pick stuff like this up and carry it around.
