I've been experimenting with bright colors for a while now, doing greens and teals in Special Effects and Splash brands. All of these washed almost completely out in under two weeks, even using recommended care instructions. I decided to try one more time using Ion and I'm blown away! The color is absolutely gorgeous, and while it's only been two weeks, it hasn't faded at all! I will update again later to report how long it lasts. Note that I was doing greens before, and this time I did blue - blues and darker colors in general last longer than greens and lighter colors, so keep that in mind if you're trying other colors. I haven't tried the green in this brand, though. This is the process I followed to do the initial dye job: 1. I bleached my hair nearly white, although there was a section around the middle that didn't bleach as white. 2. I shampooed (but NOT conditioned) my hair before dying. 3. I used a combination of Sky Blue & Sapphire colors and applied it to damp hair. We started with a base of sky blue, then did sapphire on the ends and randomly throughout the rest to give the color more depth. Since my hair wasn't bleached as much in the middle, and my hair bleaches into yellow-tones, that blended with the blue to create a greenish blue to create a beautiful effect (see the picture!) 4. I covered my head with a plastic bag and a shower cap, covered my pillow in an old towel, and left the dye in my hair OVERNIGHT. 5. I washed the dye out in the morning with COLD water. If you're like me and you can't handle cold showers, try rinsing out over the sink instead of in the shower. It's much easier to handle when you don't have freezing water running down your back. The initial rinse is the most important to do in cold water - I go back to hot showers after that. 6. I immediately treated the hair with Ion Color Defense After-Color Sealer , left it in for several minutes, then rinsed again in cold water. This is how I maintain the color: 1. I still shower in hot water every day, however I only shampoo twice a week (I do Wednesdays and Sundays to keep track). I can't stand having oily hair, which is why I still shower every day - the water by itself strips out quite a bit of the oil. 2. I use L'Oreal EverPure Sulfate-Free Color Care System Smooth Shampoo , but you can use whatever brand you want as long as it's sulfate-free 3. I use the Ion Color Defense again in place of conditioner, being sure to leave it in for a couple of minutes before rinsing. 4. Afterward, whether or not I shampooed, I use Ion Color Defense Leave-in Protector on towel-dried hair 5. After blow drying, if I didn't shampoo in the shower, I use dry shampoo to help keep the oiliness under control UPDATE: This color never seems to fade! I died it in July, and it stayed just as bright and vibrant until October, at which point I decided to switch to a different color. I only touched up the color once in 4 months! It's amazing that it never faded at all!

I went back to this product because of how long and vibrant it stays. That being said I might do another dying because my hair still isnt exactly how I want it but it's getting closer. I have before and after pictures. About a month before using this product, I used a cheap drug store dye, trying to achieve a purple fade into a blue. I know from the past that my hair doesn't do well with bleach and I only lightened the ends a bit before using the drugstore dye. I want to say this, that I haven't had fashion colors in a few years because of my job. Now my job has changed their policy on fashion colors amd was eager to start playing around with my hair. The drug store purple washed right out of my hair when I did the very first rinse, immediately not giving me the look I wanted. So after a while of trying to get the drug store blue to rinse out I finally went in with Ion color brilliance Sky Blue. I mixed it with conditioner and let it sit on my hair for almost an hour before rinsing. I used a tube and a quarter with 1/4 bottle of conditioner. I am so happy with this turn out. Before I have bright blue ends with a green/blonde roots. After I had more of an overall color.

I've always been a fan of manic panic, and though I still love their dye, there are some problems with it. I originally bought this because Manic Panic didn't have the sky blue color I wanted, and was very pleasantly surprised. The tubes are small, and my hair is short and thick. Two tubes was _just_ enough. I'll probably buy three next time. They're about the length of a dollar, and half as wide, shaped like tooth paste. The dye is fairly thick, but goes on well. I left it on for a few hours on fairly bleached hair (I used manic panic 4x well before). I didn't bother with heat. It runs when I wash it, but getting it wet alone doesn't make it run, and it doesn't stain pillowcases or towels (though the collars of some of my shirts are slightly blue). It gets on my fingers when I brush my hair, but it seems like while rubbing takes it off, it doesn't bleed, which is amazing. I dyed it a few months ago and the color is still almost as strong as when I first put it in, but ever so slightly greener. I also had roots growing in after I bleached my hair, and though some dye got on them, it came out after one washing, so I have blue tips and natural roots, which actually looks pretty cool. This is my new favorite hair dye, and I can't wait to try more colors!

I never tried this before and i was kinda worried to use something new, i usually use the punky colour ive been using that since i was about 14-22. i was dyeing my extensions an ombre sea green to a dark blue. i used a teal from the ion and a dark blue from the punky colour, and the punky colour did nothing but the ion did wonders came out just like it looked on the box. So i bought this ion blue to hopefully get a good working blue and it works wonders , you just brush or apply is straight on you don't have to peroxide or nothing. you'll need to bleach or lift your hair if you want a light color or a popping color but you can add this to dark hair to get a tint or a high light type of effect. Another thing about this dye is that is smells very pleasant and it doesn't hurt your skin. The formula is very very thick its literally like a paste which i liked because it seems like very little because of how thick it is but it goes a very long way. WARNING is will stain everything , my whole tub is blue and i cant get it out. All in all i am deff going to use this from now on i love it and i recommend if you want a vibrant color without really killing your hair

I literally only use ion dyes and have had the best experiences with them. However this was my first time using one of the brights as well as my first time using a semi permanent and unfortunately I'm a little dissapointed. I bought this shade hoping for a bold blue and used it on a virgin blonde human hair wig. I left the color on for 45 min as I always due with my ion dyes to get full saturation and when I rinsed the hair after it turned the color into more of a medium teal-Essie shade instead of bright blue. Will still make it work, but hoping that ion will start making brights in Demi permanents and/or permanents
