Turns out, the simplest tea kettle does it all
I feel like, until now, I've been perpetually dissatisfied with every tea kettle I've owned. The lids are too hard to get off, or they're too loose and they fall off. The enameling makes them easy to clean, but it cracks, and you don't realize you're drinking rusty tea until you shine a flashlight into it. The plastic parts melt, and the "cool" handles are usually too hot to use. Some don't stay open to pour; others require incredible dexterity and strength to pull an awkward trigger while trying to direct boiling liquid into a mug. I enjoy a whistle that alerts me that the water has boiled, but I hate the sound of every single one of them -- especially if I can't get to the stove quickly to turn the darn thing off.I needed to replace a recently rusted and very expensive Le Creuset tea kettle and I nearly purchased another item on Amazon -- one that promised all kinds of technology to heat quickly, and keep the handle cool, etc. But then I stumbled onto this simple little beauty and I've never been happier with a $20 purchase. It basically does nothing but boil water, and yet, it does everything I want it to do. First of all, it's small, delicate, and attractive. I love the beauty of simple, well-designed things. If I keep the flame on my gas stove completely under the kettle, the handle stays cool enough to pour without using an oven mitt, and I can easily remove the lid with bare hands before pouring, too. (I tried pouring with the lid on, and it stayed, but I was worried about it tumbling off.)It doesn't whistle, but it doesn't have to. I can hear the gentle rattling of the lid against the tea kettle as it reaches a boil. It's a delicate sound, not an obnoxious, screaming whistle, and yet, I can hear it from the next room. But the best thing about the kettle is that I can put it in the dishwasher. When something I'm cooking on the stovetop splatters on it, or when the minerals boiled out of the water leave a residue on the inside of the kettle, it's pristine after a quick run through the machine. The small size of the kettle means that it doesn't take up much room in the dishwasher at all. It's easy enough to add to the top rack when I'm running a load. The only thing I can't yet speak to is the durability of this delicate little item. It feels like it could shatter easily, and I'm rather clumsy, but perhaps being borosilicate glass means that it's sturdier than it looks? I haven't broke it yet, but I think that if I do, for $20, I'll simply buy another one.

On going review
For now this is an on going review. First a lot of the 1 & 2 star reviews I feel are customer error, not the fault of product.Ok! This review is day one, just received. Been looking for a smaller pot then I already have and this read to me as it may fit the bill. I ordered on April 6, 2019, ETA was between April 26 & May 17, arrived on April 16. That made me very happy & surprised. WRAPPING: Box was wrapped all around with bubble wrap & taped all around on top of that. Upon opening the box there was a form fitting foam that the kettle was placed in, lid was in its own spot from the kettle, very secure. The pot it self feels pretty thin, is a bell shape (as in picture) some review pic's seem not bell shape but that could be angle the pic's taken. With some saying it was smaller then they thought I filled with water just under the pour spout and poured into a four cup measuring cup and it hold 4 cups. This is thin glass, heat on low medium heat, it may take longer to heat this way but it is also better for the pot. Hold the lid with a pot holder it is not attached, or remove, may sound obvious, but...... Because it is thin glass hand wash may be best. For electric stoves a diffuser may be helpful. I will use it for sometime before I post again, I am really hoping this little pot will hold up if I care for it proper, if not I will find one that will :)UPDATE --- MAY 13, 20I have had this little pot a year now, use every day. It has held up very well. I do support the bottom for extra safety to the glass welded handle, and hand wash it. I have even put it on stove top (gas) right from the fridge on very low heat. I will be investing in another as sometimes I am in need of two at the same time.UPDATE --- May 17,23This little kettle is still going strong. I went and read some newer 1 star reviews and it seems others are having trouble with it cracking. This kettle does need some care as it is thin, so low to med low heat seems to work best on my gas stove, can not speak for electric or other stove tops but would assume the same care would be in order. Unless they have changed the material since I got mine I do still recommend this kettle. I still use mine every single day.

Very delicate.
So I just got this Teapot in the mail. First impression, much smaller than I had visualized. No big deal, just smaller than I expected. Second impression and more problematic, it is very...light weight; flimsy. It definitely feels like one wrong move and it is going to shatter. Think of your less expensive glasses maybe that you got at your local .99 store. The glass is not very substantial at all. Which makes me wonder how much heat it will sustain. When I simulated poring out of it, the top fell off when just barely being tilted (right handed tilted counter clockwise to maybe 10 o'clock). Some reviews I saw said they practically had to turn it upside down for the top to come off?? Maybe the dimensions of mine are a little off - not as tight. Don't know. -- Then I went ahead and used the tea kettle. I filled it about a third of the way and set it on my gas stove with the top on. It took less than maybe 3 mins for the already warm water to boil (not sure how long room temperature or cold water would take). I then poured the water into my cup and to my surprise, I didn't have to hold the top, I guess with water in it, it's a different story. (I would test it first though before trying that). I did notice an odd chemically smell though after heating. Almost like when you get a new appliance and use it for the first time?? Hopefully that will go away. I like the aesthetic of the kettle. I can leave it on my stove top as decoration when not in use. I am concerned with how long it will last as I use it / wash it more. Will it shatter? I guess I'll do an update after some use. All in all for just getting it, using it one time, and the price, it will work for what I need.
