No, there is no electricity involved with this. You add loose leaf tea, pour in hot water, allow time to steep, the set on top of a tea cup and it drains out the bottom while filtering the tea leaves. You have to heat your water with something else.

I would be hesitant to put it in a dishwasher. I just put soapy water in it and shake it around and then thoroughly rinse it. Easy and quick.

Q: Can you make coffee in this using coffee grounds instead of loose leaf tea?

No, this is only for steeping tea. I do not think you would get the results you want with coffee.

Q: Can I put in wash machine to clean ?

I assume by washing machine you mean dishwasher. No, they do not recommend putting it in the dishwasher, but it is very easy to wash by hand.
