Save Your Hearing for Awesome Music
Hamilton Beach has developed an excellent/simply designed blender. It provides power and quiet one would expect in a 2019 product. I envision the engineering team behind this machine saying, "yeah, we can do this... quiet(er), powerful, mid-range pricing... no problem!" I love the "power ramp-up" feature of the smoothie dial-in pre-set. It goes from "0 to 60" (low-speed to high-smoothie speed) in a non-bragging style -- "a perfect smoothie in one-minute...", says my HB Pro 1500W QS Blender. While this little robot is making my smoothie [~280g frozen fruit; one whole banana; GOL protein powder; a splash of Omega 3, 6; ~200ml fruit juice; ~650ml soy milk] I'm filling my water bottle and having a conversation with my wife. The speed ramps down and then shuts down . Smoothie made in one minute! I love this robust robot! The thick BPA free jar has a no handle design. I like really like that! You can grab-it like you mean it. Fits perfectly in hand. Feels solid and balanced. Looks like it was designed to reduce micro-wobble and lost energy from blender speed noise. Energy is directed to the spin of the blade and the spin and mix of the food in a nice 32 oz/1L final product. HB describes this as a "Quiet Shield" and not a "silent" blender. Compared to my last two ultra loud blenders -- a Bella and a less expensive HB -- the shield, which seats snugly over less rigid energy absorbing plastic, significantly dampens any noise. I absolutely love this blender, and now that I've regained my hearing (with the Belle, my wife and I either put on ear protection or pressed fingers to our ears), I can enjoy my loud music loud and quiet music quieter, cruisin' down the road in the morning with no ringing ears, enjoying that perfect smoothie!

Very quiet, and honestly fantastic
I needed a blender, and I was concerned about how loud my previous Ninja blender was. I didn’t want to be too loud in my apartment and was worried about annoying my neighbors. But I didn’t want to sacrifice on the performance. I read lots of reviews and metrics about some of the better-known high-end blenders, and even considered making my own acrylic sound shield for a Vitamix. Eventually I decided I was being kind of crazy and that I didn’t need a $500 blender. Because of the great review, and very quiet noise tests, on the Rtings site, I decided to go with this one. It works great, has enough capacity for what I need, and is significantly quieter than I expected it to be. Don’t get me wrong, all blenders are pretty loud and this is no exception. But I was very surprised how effective the noise cover was. This is a great option if you need a medium-sized blender and you’re concerned about noise level. If that’s you, definitely give this one some consideration.

Disappointed at performance. Not trying to chop rocks here. :(
First time out of the box it was hard to get used to gripping the blender pitcher since it doesn't have a handle. But we got over that. We were fairly impressed with the reduction in noise level. Not as good as the more expensive blenders, but a definite reduction in noise vs. without the cover. The first couple of times we used it, it was very powerful and we were super excited to have picked up such an awesome blender for under $200 with noise reduction. But after about 10 uses, blending power reduced drastically. So much that I gave it to my daughter for her apartment and she gave it back because it doesn't work. We make frappes with a premixed packet that you mix with water and then add ice. Our ice is not super hard. It's made from an automatic ice maker and we go through it fairly quickly so it doesn't sit in there turning into rocks. It's soft enough that the $20 Hamilton Beach blenders we picked up from WalMart plow through it easily. However the $20 version is very noisey. A $169 blender from HB should be able to perform better than this! I guess if you don't care about noise reduction, go with the cheaper model. It does way better than this one and we are shocked. Been using the cheaper model for years without any blending issues.

LOVE THIS BLENDER
I got this blender for my new apartment and compared to most blenders this one is considerably quieter and personally I think the noise shield does help a lot as well. To reduce noise even more I have it sitting on top of a foam pad and when turned on a lower setting it’s barely noticeable. It has a ton of setting options and a dial so you can fine tune how fast/loud it blends. I can’t vouch too much for the blending power as I mainly use fresh fruits for my smoothies and throw in a couple frozen chunks just for consistency, but it handles the job very well! It’s very easy to clean I just squirt some dish detergent in it and some warm water and let it blend on a lower setting for 30 seconds to a minute and it cleans out majority of whatever’s left inside. Overall I’m very very pleased with this blender it is well worth the price and after using it multiple times I’m still shocked with how quiet it is.

good blender, quiet is relative
This is quieter than most cheap blenders and most high power blenders. I measured it around 89-90 db which is loud but is better than many. Without the cover it measured around 95db. I replaced an old Breville which worked for many years and was relatively quiet (quieter than my old cheap blender) This seems faster and more powerful than the Breville. I downrated it a bit because it is really not Super Quiet and because the jar is large, lacks a handle, and would be hard for small hands. I am 6' with long fingers and can lift he jar with one hand, my wife needs two hands. After a few weeks of use it feels sturdy and reliable, the smoothie program works very well, the larger knob makes it easy to select function or speed, the buttons are actual molded buttons and should last longer than the membrane switches on many blenders.

Blessedly quiet for a blender.
The hubby loves to make these gag worthy smoothies every morning consisting of avocado, kale, chard, spinach, and..... orange juice. Yep. Gagged just a little in the back of my throat there. But I digress. Normally, said green bit o' nasty is blended in a Ninja that I am positive was loud enough to wake the dead, as well as me, the wife who never, ever seems to be allowed to sleep. Ever. Is the blender silent? Oh heck no. But the shield that goes over the mixer container and blade makes one heck of a difference. I can barely hear it in the second story bedroom and our kitchen is almost directly below it with an large air vent that transfers sound like an amplifier. As far as functionality, the blender does an amazing job according to the hubby. It has a smoothie setting that automatically does the blending for you freeing you up to go on with your morning routine. It also has a clean setting as well. Double bonus. Another thing I think is great, is that there are metal parts where other blenders, like the Ninja, are made of plastic. Nice durable machine. Plus, it really does make "snow" for your frozen adult bevvies. Winner winner chicken dinner riiiiiiight here!!!

The best quietist smoothly maker I have had
I’m sold on this blender for power, smoothies and noise reduction. However, even though it’s quieter than most blenders I still prefer even less noise, and easier cleaning. I find that I often use a sponge to quickly clean the the insides down to the blades before running the clean function otherwise the clear plastic eventually gets dull and foggy. The blades though become a barrier to thorough deep cleaning. Hence the 4 star rating, but for the price it has everything else I want. I strongly recommend

REVISED REVIEW - PLEASE READ BEFORE YOU BUY!
I've only had this for 2 weeks, so I don't know about longevity, but I will update this if it doesn't last. I had a 10 year old Vitamix and it made me unhappy for a couple of reasons: 1. too big to fit under my cabinet 2. too large to do just one smoothie I love this Hamilton Beach blender: 1. it does just one smoothie fine without needing to use the tamper or fidgeting with it - I like the kind of smoothie that is a blended drink - icy and thick. 2. it fits under my cabinet. I don't leave this out all year because I usually only have frozen drinks when it's warm, however, I just might not put it away because it fits under the cabinet. 3. i love the addition of the little velcro strip that is attached to the cord in the back. you can refold it and secure it with the velcro strip so the cord isn't sprawled all over the counter - in fact it doesn't stick out at all. 4. I also think it is thoughtful that they put a measurement in the clear top that fits into the lid. You can remove this top to use the tamper or add ingredients, but it can also be used for small measurements and has some markings. If you fill the center of the clear lid, it's 1/3 cup of liquid, which is exactly what I need for my recipe. One less thing to get dirty. 5. It is powerful. These are little things to some, but, I like a neat countertop and I have found a way to store everything inside cabinets - even my toaster - so my counters are free to work on as intended. My cabinet is open on the end where I store the blender. I can't fit it under there going in from the front because there is a piece of trim that just barely makes that impossible. So, I go around the side where there is no trim and can slide it under the cabinet. The machine is a little over 15 .25 inches high. I love the pre-programmed options on the left. You can turn it to Smoothie, Crush, Puree and Clean and push "Start" and the programs will start, rev-up and stop on their own. As to what others have found annoying: 1. loudness - the Vitamix was as loud or louder. This one did not seem any louder than any other powerful blender and I don't even feel the need to use the cover. I do LIKE the cover because when you want to put this away, the blender cup, lids and tamper will all fit inside the cover which has a nice, big handle on it; this is convenient, especially if you're storing it up high. 2. lid is hard to remove - yes, it is - a bit. When I remove the blender cup, I hold it against my body as a stabilizer and then pull the lid off. REVISED REVIEW! SURPRISE, SURPRISE - it's just after the return window and there's a problem. Since I got the blender, I've been making the same drink every day: 1/2 cup liquid, 4 coffee ice cubes, 2 tsp chocolate sauce, 1/2 tsp vanilla, 3 packets of Stevia. I use the "crush ice" program for about 30 seconds or until I can no longer hear chunks of ice in the blender, turn it off and then switch the control to the right to blend for another 30 -45 seconds. This gives me a frozen drink that can be consumed through a straw or with a spoon. Now that the return window has passed, its leaking liquid out the bottom of the cup (see photo above). I contacted Customer Service about this via email. They said the machine "performs best" if you use a minimum of one cup of liquid. However, if I use a whole cup of liquid, it is no longer a frozen drink - it's just a drink. I have responded to them with the info they requested (how I make the drink), however, at this point, I'm pretty unhappy. It grinds up the ice just fine - no problem there - so why the leak? I really wanted to be happy with this machine. It's a good fit in every other way - but if it's leaking now, what will happen later? In the beginning there was a fine mist of grease that would form under the cup. I just wiped it out. I hope it's not possible for that to get into my drink. I kept my Vitamix just in case something like this happened. So glad I did. But that thing is huge and doesn't fit well in my kitchen, so now I have to get it out and set it up and put it away every day instead of this one that fits nicely under my cabinet on the countertop. I also notice that it now costs $125 - I paid $130 on Prime Day. I wonder why it's 26 % off now?

Great company!
The blender is good. Powerful, the noise-reducing cover is effective. The product is great! I wanted to give a shout-out to the Hamilton Company! I had a crack in my "unshatterable" blender jar. I wrote Hamilton Canada. They sent me a postage label. I sent them the product for investigation. And they sent me a replacement. This kind of no-nonsense customer service is so rare these days. I will gladly seek out more Hamilton products in future!

Powerful, quiet blender
This blender is very powerful, capable of doing pretty much everything, including nut butters. We use it every single day, sometimes multiple times per day, and it has held up well so far. The bolt that holds the blade came loose once, so I tightened it with an allen key. Hopefully it stays tight for some time now. I was impressed with the noise level; it is quieter than I expected. I would have liked a larger jar (it's small at 32 oz) and a removable blade would make cleaning it easier (and safer). Overall, an excellent purchase.
