How thick is this carbon pad?

The thickness is 1/4" to 3/8". It's a little fuzzy and fairly firm.

I tested water for Nitrate before adding in my prefilter, no change in nitrate after 12Hr anyone tested water?

I don’t think you can expect the filter to have than much effect on nitrates. It’s more to filter out particulates and food the fish don’t eat.

Can you combine a nitrate filter with an ammonia filter?
