Remember the teeth go down
I figured the 21 tooth would help the steering on my LA130 and it did. I think the pinion gear is pot metal, but it’s the exact fit for OEM. For the price it’s hard to beat if installed correctly. This kit paired with the poor man’s power steering upgrade and some adjustable drag links will set your mower up to keep going for a long time. I’m quite pleased with the quality of this kit versus ones I’ve purchased in the past.

Didn't last a full mowing season.
I installed this steering sector and pinion gear on a John Deere LA 110 in August 1, 2023. Today, July 2, 2024, it needs replacing. From August last year to mid September, and then from May of this year until today is the length of time the steering sector and gear have been in place so that would amount to about 25 hours run time on my mower. The metal on each gear is a softer metal and will not last. The original sector and pinion gear lasted for about 19 years.

Required a work around on my L120
The bend on the teeth on the sector gear is more aggressive than the OEM original. As a result the sector gear binds when you tighten the bolt in the slot. Adding a 5/8 inch washer as a shim between the slot bushing and the plate solved the problem.A 5 star end result, but one star taken off because of the issue with fit.

Right part, but may not solve entire problem?
This is definitely the right set of parts to address my steering problem (slippage on this exact set of parts).But the slippage persists. Even after using all of the replacement parts? And inspection of all the related elements leaves me wondering...where is the remaining slack coming from? I cannot figure it out? And I had some fairly expert assistance too from two farm farmhands who repair much more complicated things on a frequent basis?Anyways, I am glad it was a cheap "repair". We'll tackle the problem again in the spring.
