Electroforming (Jewellery Handbooks)

Good book....
This is not a step by step how-to guide for beginners. Those who are looking for such a work will be best served by watching YouTube videos.BUT, this IS an excellent treatment of the subject and covers several types of metal in a fair degree of detail. Well worth purchasing if you plan to work in this medium.

A must have with great charts for someone who wants to make great art
This book has information not found elsewhere. There is a chart that tells you what AMPs are needed to use with different metals that i havent seen elsewhere.so you will know how to set your rectifier. While there are not a lot of pictures taking you thru the different steps, that i focan be seen on YouTube. She tellsyou what toadd to the solutionso you donβt get bubbles andso much moreNot really for a beginner that has no experience in making jewelry. I am so happy i found this book.I bought the other book for beginers in electroforming and found it lacking in so many ways. This one fills the voids.

Excellent book! However...
This is a great resource for electroforming theory and practice. It is written for a British audience. The supplies and materials referenced use British tradenames and sources of supply. Complete newcomers to the subject of electrolytic forming may be better served by a more basic text, e.g. in electroplating. Acid copper (sulfuric acid) and acid silver (cyanide) solutions present serious impediments to casual or home use. This is a workshop or production studio manual of excellent quality with 2 pages devoted to health and safety - if you aren't comfortable with toxic chemical and acid procedures buy this book later, but do buy it.

Too advanced for a small scale beginner
This book is something of a teaser! I have a strong interest in electroforming, but I didn't feel as satisfied with the information presented. It seemed a bit lacking, at least from the point of view of a beginner. Two issues: I have little genuine chemistry background. If you need something step by step and are not a chemistry whiz, you're likely to have a hard time following things. The other issue is that the book is from the UK, which doesn't quite matter beyond the fact that all measures, etc are [understandably] in metric. It adds difficulty when your sorry un-chemist self is trying to muck through both technical talk AND unit conversions.Overall, I don't take much issue with the information presented. It's interesting and helps you to understand the process and how much equipment can be required. Since I lack in solid chemistry and liquid metric skills though, this is one of those books that I've read and put on the bookshelf. I don't find myself referring to it ever.Anybody feel motivated to do a step by step US book on Electroforming? Maybe if I ever get the equipment together to try it, I'll write one.

Highly recommended
This is an excellent updated text for the practical use of electroforming. Chemistry and complex interactions are explained using simple terminology. Advice for the setup and maintennance of bath and materials is quite thorough. If you are an artist looking to build and/or use electroforming, this is the book for you. If you are a metalsmith and educator this is a must-buy.

SUPERB TEXT on electroforming, so you can know the WHY!!!
This is THE text for electroforming, it even starts with a basic start that can be done in a kitchen (but don't do that, since you don't want chems or fumes in food, craft room or garage preferably) then scale to much larger and complex set ups. The chemistry is cool, very cool actually and really empowers me to understand the how and why and as such get really creative, but for most craft level practitioners maybe a bit much. But that is a subjective opinion. JUST BUY THE BOOK - IT"S A LOVELY REFERENCE!!! VERY DOABLE PROJECTS.

A useful and very practical review of the art
This is a great practical little book that beautifully summarise electroforming from a practical and experienced point of view. It would be a stretch to say that based on this you could go set yourself up to undertake electroforming from scratch but it would certainly be a good foundation. This is mainly directed at electroforming for jewellery and art but that does not in any way reduce its utility. The chemistry and technology is explored from a sensible and practical standpoint with many pointers that would be useful to all electroformers and platers too

Electroforming for serious jewelers
I'm in awe with how useful this book is. I've been electroforming for six months and learning as I go and I really needed to learn about technical issues beyond de artisanal approach but below the chemical industrial standards. This book covers up everything! Thank you Leslie!
