Is fasting required before this test?

Gating is not required when checking A1C, bc it is an average/percentage and true indicator of diabetes, over a three month period. A glucose test in routine labs, yes, you fast for. That's to see if your normal blood sugar is elevated and an A1C is warranted. Hope this helps.

No it’s a small amount of blood. Like if you were checking your blood sugar.
