What size is this pot - like inches across?

7 " high, 8 3/4 outside diameter and 8" inside diameter.

Can this be used in preheated oven or not? I see reviews about its being used for baking bread and I've never seen bread started baking in cold oven.

Yep! You preheat the oven WITH the pot in the oven to preheat too. Withdraw it when preheated and drop the bread into the bowl. Cover and begin backing. BTW, the lid gets preheated too, but not on the pot. It’s an “oven mit” affair, assuming you’re not baking with the lid off. Cheers!

Yes! It comes with instructions and some very good recipes. I use mine (both of them) for “no knead bread.” You haven’t lived til you eat “old world” bread from a quality terracotta baking pot from Portugal! No regrets here!
