Bike Lane Kayak Hoist Pulley System with 125lb Capacity

This hoist checks all the boxes for me. Simple installation with good illustrated instructions. Solid components. Easy to use. Nice simple brake feature that works well. Straps supporting the boat are wide, strong and have several built in loops to facilitate length adjustment. One tiny nit is that the instructions were perhaps too descriptive and make the installation sound more complicated than it is. Fortunately the illustrations are good and the process is straightforward.

This product does a great job of storing your kayak at an exceptional value. The only issue I found was mediocre installation instructions. Step 4 says "Attach the hoist to the mounting board". Step 5 says "mount the board pulley assembly....... on the ceiling". Step 7 says "Before attaching the hook/pulley part to the bracket that is attached to the ceiling mounting board you must thread the rope (see Drawing 9)" (steps 4, 5, 6, & 7 are on page 2). The instructions for threading the rope, along with Drawing 9, are found on page 4. The order of the illustrations (in order from top to bottom on page 3) are Drawing 4, 2, 6, 3, 5, 7, & 8. If you are a reasonably competent DIYer you won't have much problem and you are probably used to mediocre (or missing) instructions. But really, how much trouble would it take for the manufacturer to do a better job?

I got this lift to hang my kid's Power Wheel Jeep from the ceiling to free up some much-needed floor space. That Jeep takes up a surprising amount of room. Without the battery (which is stored inside for the winter), it probably weighs about 40 pounds, so it's well within the stated capacity of this hoist. Installation was not too complicated, and I chose to mount mine to a board that was attached across 3 joists with Spax Power Lags (which I highly recommend - those bolts are amazing). I used the included hardware to mount the pulleys to the brackets. I also chose to hang the Jeep upside down. Not for any good reason, I just thought it looked a little cooler. Quality seems more than adequate. The weakest points are probably the plastic pulleys, but if one breaks the metal pin will keep it from crashing down. If one pulley failed catastrophically, the other pulley would almost certainly hold the load on its own without dropping the Jeep to the floor. The rope seems plenty strong. I wouldn't use it to pull a car out of a ditch, but it seems capable of holding more weight than I'll ever need it to. As others have mentioned, the included instructions are not the best, but it didn't take very long to figure out. It helps to mock up the assembly before hanging it from the ceiling to make sure you understand how it works.

Great rack for my kayak. I wanted to store my kayak inside for the winter and I have very limited space in a one car garage. This is the perfect solution for my situation. Installation was a breeze even though my garage celling is drywalled. I cut two pieces of 2 x 4 about 10 inches in length. Found the studs in the celling and used 8 inch long screws to attach to the celling. Supports the entire weight of a 16 ft. kayak with rudder. The lift works great just like described. easy to lift the kayak with all the supplied hardware. If you are on the fence about this and have limited space this should work for you.

I have a garage with a high ceiling and this work great for storing my canoe. Installation was fairly easy, but try to make the lines drop as straight as possible, otherwise the lifting gets progressively harder as you near the top.

Does the job - barely- I had to replace or augment some of the fixings. To install the hoist as per their recommendations you will need a long piece of 2*4 and lag bolts and washers to mount this to the ceiling. The supplied bolts are only for use if you mount the pulleys into joists directly which is not recommended,can be tricky to do if your ceiling is already drywalled and will only work if the joists are exactly the right width apart to mount the pulleys in the correct location for the kayak. I ended up with getting 4" lag bolts, some 1 or 1.5" washers and then ensured that I drilled the main hole and a slightly bigger hole for the end of the shank. This gave me a secure fitting as opposed to just drilling one sized hole and using the smaller bolts that were supplied. The rope supplied also showed signs of fraying by the time I had rigged the device up - let alone the weekly use of getting the kayak in and out of the hoist. I followed the instructions to space the straps apart but found that the straps would just slide off the end of the kayak as I started to lift it up. This would have rendered the hoist system useless and/or dropped the kayak onto the ground. I was able to resolve this by hooking a bungee cord over the edge of the cockpit around the outside of the straps and then back into the cockpit. This stops the straps from sliding down to the end of the kayak.(See photos). I did like that the straps themselves were adjustable with the hooks and loops. I attached a couple of photos of the end result - the small t piece was used to help brace the wood against the ceiling as I screwed the other end into the joists and I left it there just in case I ever needed to adjust the bolts again. Must have if u have kayaks or other things to get out of the way. If they were less expensive I would have a dozen in my garage

Watch a few YouTube videos on installation and it helped. Mounted to a 2x4 then to the ceiling of the garage. Lifts my Field & Stream Eagle Run 12' kayak no issues. I have 10' ceilings and it raises the kayak high enough to clear my garage door. Hardest part was finding the trusses under the sheet-rock. Added a non-ratcheting tie-down between the hooks. It keeps the lines parallel and prevents binding of the pulleys when fully raised.
