Good price on a Good Product
Works well and was relatively cheap. Had to egg out one of the mounting holes to fit better on my application, but that is pretty simple. Otherwise it fit well and is a value when the other option is a pull rope on a larger motor. Spins it over great and makes life a lot easier.

Works Good! Fast Shipping!
Must have, 5" long 3/8" drive Torx T-40 (Amazon), firmly be inserted for successful oem bolt removal. Note: I now know why all the upper end riding mowers manufacturers are going to the Kawasaki V-Twin Engine. I've provided indepth photos to help future self doers, they are pretty self explanatory. If your starter has a plastic starter drive (Bendix) on it, more than likely your "Ring Gear" on your engine is plastic as well. You do not want to put a "steel drive" starter in place of it!!! The starter retention bolts on my 2015 JD D-160, Briggs & Stratton 25hp V-Twin were heavily Loctited®, and the bolt to the right behind the 16 tooth plastic starter drive, not exactly accessible straight on, see 1st photo. After feeling it slip just a bit after breaking it loose, it was necessary to tap it in with a hammer, all the way squarely to get it out without a stripped out cluster on my hands. The other one was relatively easy due to it being a square shot into the "Torx" bolt. I replaced the oem bolts with a more "secure" drive end which was the 5/16"x18 x 5/8", 1/4" drive bolts (Bag Head Photos), and socket/ratchet in my photos. The 1/4" drive bolts were so much easier than the original Torx bolts, with added tight fitting 5/16" flat washers. I did reapply "Loctite®" high strength thread locker to the new starter motor bolts for the #497595. Starter motor works great!

Spin that motor!
Works great. Spins that motor in my lawn tractor like a top! For the longest time I really thought I just had a very weak (but new) battery. Wasn't the battery at all, but an OLD starter that was very hard to turn by hand and squeaking. It was an easy install on my Craftsman T1000 tractor. When I turned the key, it just whipped that motor like it was nothing! Very impressive. Worth the $38 dollars spent. Glad I decided to do it. It's a great replacement.

Plastic with aluminum - steel with steel
Craftsman YTS 4000 with 24hp Platinum engine. Many negative reviews for this product based on the plastic pinion gear. Double check your engines ring gear before ordering - if it is aluminum (the lower portion with teeth) then this will work for you. If a magnet sticks, then OBVIOUSLY this is not for you. Another good indication is the starter you removed, check your pinion gear. As to how I got to the starter - turn the key and solenoid clicks. Put a meter on and had 12V to the solenoid. Turned the key and only had 8V coming out of the solenoid to the starter. Removed the starter cable - turn the key - had 12V coming out of the solenoid. Quick fix

Works and saved over $100 dollars! Quality OEM part!
The starter worked for my riding lawn mower life it should. I went to look up parts and the OEM were a couple hundred dollars!!!! I did a lot of research before purchasing this one and I don’t regret it. It’s OEM quality and you can’t beat the price. I have had it on my mower for half a season without any issues. Don’t hesitate give it a try.
