I purchased this VGP-BPS40 replacement battery for my Sony laptop because the original 9-year-old battery was swelling, which is a fairly common problem with older laptop batteries. The original battery still performed very well - I only replaced it because of the swelling. Unfortunately, the new battery performance was far worse than the original swelling battery.(1) The new battery would not hold a full charge overnight. For example, If I shut down the laptop at 100%, when I turned it back on the next morning it would be reporting only 94%.(2) The actual runtime was only about 25% of what it should be. For example, if the laptop reported 4 hours remaining, it would die after only 1 hour.(3) Output dropped off suddenly and unexpectedly, so when it was reporting 35% remaining, it would drop to 6% within a few minutes.I tested this battery for a few weeks, hoping that cycling the battery would improve its performance, but it only seemed to get worse.It is notable that the product description says "Sealed with Anti-Static Shield Sleeve." Mine did NOT arrive in an anti-static sleeve.I don't know if this was a poor battery to begin with, or if it was improperly stored in a warehouse, but its performance was so bad I decided to return it and try one from a different seller.

The product is misrepresented on the photos. It looks like the photos are editted. The photos look very much so like someone used photoshop to remove the parts that say SONY. The item received was not the same as depicted in the images.Does not ship in a static free bag as described.HOWEVER, it works, easy to install and so far it is working fine. If the product fails and if I remember this review then I'll update this review accordingly.

Started working great, then one day it stopped working, called customer service and they said to remove the battery then reinstall - after I did that it was fine.

I’ll let the pictures do the talking. Cracked the bottom half of my laptop housing because it swelled up. Do not buy this product!!

Works well when pluged in and charged. But it dies very quickly when not in use for few days.
