Great radio
New to ham radio I got my general back to back with my tech. I talk all over with this radio now. Originally bought for my mobile, I love this in my shack and likely will go with a 891 for mobile as this radio is to nice to beat up. A bit of a learning curve to use, but easy enough for a new guy.

Getting great signal reports.
The first one I got would not transmit. I called Yaesu tech support. We tried everything but it would not transmit. They said "send it back." I did. I went to the local Ham Radio Outlet store and bought another one. It works great. Getting great signal reports.

Outstanding radio
Couldn't be happier with this radio. Even though I was able to get on the air right away, it's going to take a long time to learn all the bells and whistles (but that's half the fun of the hobby). The best thing I can pass along is to set the switch on the back of the microphone to position 2. Reports from receiving stations indicated that the overall audio quality is much better with the switch in position 2 than in position 1.

It worked but there were issues.
It worked great when it worked. I would say 90% of the time it would not connect to wires. I have the FTM 500 and would connect immediately. Programming is tough even by Yaesu standards. I would recommend but just be prepared to be challenged and look for work arounds. Youtube was my best friend for this thing solving my issues.

Its a Yaesu.....
What else is there to say. I paired it up woth a hustler 6btv and have been around the world. I also transport it to my truck. I work in west Texas and it comes in handy out there.

Shack in a box
this was my first "real" radio. I have owned Chinese radios like baofenf, tyt, and qyt for years and thats all good when you are a beginner now that i have had my ticket for 5 years it was time to step up my game and go full send and buy a legit radio. The price is a little steep but you are getting every penny's worth with this radio. Im addition to buying this radio if you are new to ham radio, please do not skimp out on your feeder lines and antennas, also use a power supply that is designed for these radios. If you use crap you will wrek this radio in a second
