Navigating the Tiber: How to Help Your Friends and Family Journey Toward the Catholic Faith

Excellent resource for both seasoned Catholic apologists and for beginners
Devin Rose has written the best guidebook that I have seen so far for helping to welcome non-Catholic Christians home to the Church. As a convert to the Church myself from a Baptist/Lutheran background, I had very high expectations for this book, since I've been there, know the culture and the conversion process, helped with RCIA, studied theology in both Protestant and Catholic institutions, and of course explained and defended my conversion to a large number of Protestants.Even with my experience and high expectations in this area, I found Rose's book insightful and helpful in how to approach Catholic apologetics to Protestants. His tips for refocusing a conversation on the key weaknesses of Protestantism (authority, the failure of Sola Scriptura and Sola Fide, the canon of Scripture, perspicuity, etc.) are excellent. While in several cases I already had his additional resources, there were other times when I did not, and there is always more to learn. I would highly recommend Rose's book both as a refresher to seasoned Catholic apologists and catechists and as a "getting started" guide to Catholics with a desire to shepherd someone home to the Church.

Great Read
This book was a great follow up to A Protestant's Dilemma. Together, these two books on Catholic apologetics have strengthened my own Catholic faith and given me the words to discuss with my Protestant friends. At times reading this book, I was caught a bit off guard with some of the writing and felt it was too "in your face" for someone still on the fence about Catholicism but otherwise really enjoyed what this book presented. It was a quick read that I want to re-read! Easy to understand and not caught up in overly academic wording and themes but shared in a way to help draw everyone closer to the One True Church.

Three Stars
It seems a bit confrontational unless someone is first seeking more information about the church

These Apologist books are great for building knowledge of the Catholic faith
These Apologist books are great for building knowledge of the Catholic faith. Of course good when questions come up regarding the faith from our Protestant brothers.

If you like arguing with Catholics
Beware Protestants! Devin Rose has compiled a secret play book to arm Catholics with scriptural and historical and philosophical arguments to make you reconsider your Protestant faith. If you like arguing with Catholics, you will want to read this book to arm yourselves in advance against all the arguments that may come against you!Watch out, though...these ideas may make you think that perhaps Catholics have something going for them that you never realized.

Quick, easy read
First off, this book targets protestants specifically, so if you are looking for a book on trying to bring atheists into the church I would recommend a book like Answering Atheism. The chapters in Navigating the Tiber are short, but are helpful and to the point. Important topics include Sola Scriptura, Sole Fide, and authority. I would recommend this book for all those who have people in their lives who would be open to conversion from any protestant denomination.
