It's a pair of brushes. Definitely comes with two.

Would these be good for a beginner? Or can anyone recommend some for a beginner.

I don't see why they wouldn't be good for a beginner. They are very "classic" in that they have a lot of spring in the wires and a fairly wide fan-out. They remind me a lot of the brushes that were made in the early 60s when I was just learning to play.

Why is there a warning about a harmful carcinogenic chemical on the case of these brushes? What chemical is that?

If have no idea. I would go to Vic Firth for that answer. I'm sure they don't want to sell an item that has this warning.

Do they work with elecronic drums? Yamaha DTX562K

I wouldn't think these brushes would work well with electronic drums as they are quite light. I think they are wonderful for traditional brush play on acoustic drums. Since I wrote my review, they have become my "go-to" brushes for jazz work and 50's style rock 'n' roll.
