is there a protective film over the solar panel for shipping?

There was on the one we received! Just a clear piece of sticky film. I can't imagine it would protect much, but it was definitely there! Hope that helps!

Is there a way to replace battery? I received as a gift last summer & it was beautiful. This year it won't light up.

Yes it can be replaced, just make sure its a rechargeable battery, a regular one won't work and has the potential to be hazardous. I found ours at our local Walgreens
