I have a few of these journals. I love them. The pages take ink, pastels, paint. No bleeding through. And the pages are great to write on too.

Very impressed with the quality, from the thick outer leather to the durable thick pressed pages. I have no issues with the colouration of the pages. Will probably buy more products from the same line.

Visually, this book is adorable. Small in size, nice weight, sturdy construction. The paper, however, is problematic. These pages have been treated with some chemical or method that causes them to repel most of what they encounter. Fountain pen ink will take over 24 hours to dry, even when blotted. Watercolor is also a hit-or-miss endeavor, as it requires a surface to sink into. Markers skitter on the rough surface and, if pressed too deeply, will cause the paper to flake. No erasing; this takes the stain right off the page. Gel pens have worked best, but this isn't my choice of medium for a vintage leather journal. So know that this will be a struggle - and yet, the lovely look and heft of the book may make the labor worth it to you.

This is a very interesting vehicle to execute some of your more unusual or latent ideas. It’s appearance is absolutely charming, with a truly archaic style; speaking as a medieval scholar and artist, I can say that this is a very good facsimile of an aged manuscript. I have included a photo of the frontispiece I devised for my new sketchbook venture; strictly medieval style! This paper does have serious limitations, as some reviewers have noted, but so do all art vehicles. It does not take erasing, scrubby use of eraser or pencil, etc., but you must just view this as an interesting limitation, and proceed from there to decide what approach would achieve your goals. Don’t blame the media itself, it’s a special tool! I included a picture of my first piece, just to show that if you choose watercolour, you should probably choose a light technique, as the paper will not take a wetter treatment. I’ve since done a few more pieces.
