Perfect fit and function, revised design from original I had that was from 2011 that failed.
NOTE: THIS IS THE 6 WIRE (10-PIN PLUG) VERSION, NOT THE 3 WIRE VERSION. THAT IS A DIFFERENT PART NUMBER THAN AEQ73110205. The description doesn't mention that there are two identical versions that have different connectors. So check your connector first. You will have to remove the whole panel that the ice maker is mounted to with the three wide gray screws and the one at the top center which has a big plastic washer on it. The whole unit will pull out and forward. Disconnect the big plug, and turn the unit over. On the back, under the tape, is the plug where the ice maker connects to the rest of the unit. This model has the 6 wire/10 pin connector. Some models have only a 3 wire connection there, and if you have that, this is not the part for you.Anyway, the review...My original from 2011 failed after having lots of issues for the last year. Turns out, the plastic worm gear inside the motor/gear housing connected to the motor shaft had ground itself to pieces trying to return the tray to normal position when dumping. The temperature sensor wire for the original ran down the side and under the tray, periodically causing it to bind the tray in the dumped position. This new revised model has the temp sensor wire routed through the pivot on the right side, instead of just hanging down on the left between the motor and tray. This removes the binding issue.Hopefully it will last at least as long as the original. Or I guess I should say originals, as the lower one has failed too, but it seems these only last about 5 years, maybe a little longer if you're lucky.Either way, it was a perfect fit and took about ten min to install and works smoothly and efficiently.

Fit Well and Works perfectly
Bought this OEM icemaker to replace the icemaker in my LG LFX28978ST. My original tray started overflowing because it didn't have enough power to empty the tray once the cubes were frozen, so it would rotate back and try to fill the already full tray with water again, causing a nice big puddle of water on the floor. Watched a 8 minute video step-by-step instructional video on Youtube and decided to try to install myself versus paying about $100 more for the part and at least $200-$250 for a appliance repairman to come to my house to do it.The removal and install took about 20-25 minutes, as I went slowly to make sure I followed all steps properly. The toughest part was getting the plug-in adapters to release, but not a big deal. Put everything in place, hit the reset button and the tray filled immediately. A couple of hours later we had ice again. It has worked flawlessly for the last 3 days. The ice cubes are only slightly smaller than the original tray. I would highly recommend this to anyone who needs a new icemaker. I would also recommend you try to install yourself as it is not overly difficult at all and you only need a single phillips-head screwdriver.

do NOT buy!
First I submitted the correct model number for our frig and was assured the part was correct. Ordered, then waited and when it finally arrived, it did NOT fit (One wire plug was totally wrong and one plastic wall interfered to where it could not go into place.). The notched "wall" I had to create was shown in the illustration but not there in the part.In order to not have another two weeks without ice, I had to spend half a day transfering wires and soldering in three connections and three other wires. Then I had to make a heat cutter to notch the plastic so it matched the original. After that it went into place easily and after a day or so of self adjusting (slow ice making the first 8 hours, frozen-up output chute next day) it now works as when new. BUT, never again!

Make sure the water fill chute is not broken loose.
Ice maker installed easy enough, but noticed ice collecting around the space saver door. After a couple of weeks, I took a close look to see if I could figure out why. The water fill chute is moving around when water is going in, causing splashing around door, the plastic tabs holding it in place are broken. Also the sensors don’t turn unit off when bin is full. Don’t wait as long as I did to troubleshoot, the replacement time ran out on me and now I have to shut the ice maker off when bin fills with ice. Unfortunately if not turned on before the ice is all gone from the bin, you have to wait a few hours before you have ice again.

LG ice maker
This is LG's direct upgraded replacement for LFX28978ST. Easy fix. Remove three silver screws from whole panel, 2 bottom- one center. Pull bottom and drop down from top screw with plastic retainer. Disengage plug from door. Flip panel over and disengage second plug covered in tape. Remove screws holding unit to panel. Install in reverse order.+/- 30 minMight check with LG company site for other models that use this new number.

Ice for my drinks...
What a deal... Saved me an $800 appliance repair bill. The repairman also stated that if the refrig was over 6 yearrs old it might be better to get a new one.Easy to install & works luck a charm.

Not what's in the box
I ordered this OEM replacement part, but the product label read AEQ73110210 and subsequently, the connectors didn't match the original part and couldn't be installed, just by plugging it in to Fridge connectors. I'm sure if one was desperate, the connectors could be cut and the wires spliced, of coarse, totally voiding any warranty. I returned it hoping to find the correct replacement part, maybe from LG
