Katniss Everdeen reluctantly becomes the symbol of a mass rebellion against the autocratic Capitol. Review: Hunger Games - the REAL world nightmare - I've viewed all 3 movies several times and am overwhelmed at the superior characterization! It felt so real....like being there and feeling each person's emotions. I loved all 3 but the third one was the work of genius and perfection. They get better with each sequel and I'm saddened to wait for a 4th installation. I also marvel they categorize this as "teen"...WHAT? I'm almost 60 and if this is teen entertainment - you gotta be kidding! Is this not an analogy of world politics in the crucible of Panem? Does it not show the reality of the third world suffering and wealthy governments at play for thir own purposes? Do you not see the over-indulgence of the Capital and the exploitation of children and the absolute poverty and suffering of those who are "unconnected" with the "Capitol elite".......? No, folks....anyone over 50 who's studied world history sees an amazing mockery of oppression by the mighty over the weak, helpless, the orphan and the widow....Do you not recall Nazi Germany and the absolute slaughter of 6 million Jews? Remember Stalin's Soviet monster machine? Did you know how many MILLIONS starved to death? My dear Russian born friend told me of her grandparents dying of starvation along with millions of others. That's "hunger games" in real life. Years before most of you reading this were ever born....did you know about the millions of "unconnected" Chinese civilians who were forced into slave labor but all they harvested was confiscated and literally millions of Chinese civilians died of starvation. Today, do you not know that North Korea continues to route countless multitudes to slave labor camps to farm but receive virtually NO food....so they too die of starvation. The REAL HUNGER GAMES continues in this world and how many know the absolute suffering around us. We live in ignorance and few really care! So, categorize this movie as "teen genre" if you will.......but it's the BEST history lesson I've ever seen in a parallel universe/world. THINK ABOUT IT....the widow of a WWII veteran who survived. Review: I am pleased to say that this movie delivers!! - I am simply a huge fan of this movie series. It drives me nuts that Hollywood finds it necessary to split the final book of any big hit series into two parts, but I do like the idea of 4 Hunger Games movies rather than only 3. I haven't read the books so this story has been unfolding on screen for me and I just can't get enough. I can still watch the first Hunger Games over-and-over, and as the next installment hits the big screen I have yet to be disappointed. I was worried this movie would be a bit boring and dull just like the first part of the final books of Harry Potter and Twilight. I am pleased to say this movie delivers!! I was glued to the edge of my seat the entire movie and was definitely not ready for it to end. Part 2 can't come fast enough!! SPOILER ALERT: I was a bit surprised to see the reunion of Katniss and Peta turn so violent. I certainly wasn't expecting him to full on attack her and choke her out. To be honest, i was hoping it was just a dream, but when she wakes up in a hospital bed with a neck brace on I was very intrigued to see how they would explain this sucker punch. I always love a movie where the underdog has to stand up against the oppression of a formidable foe with near hopelessness of success, yet somehow manage to pull it off at the last minute. I really liked the momentum of this story line and how it just kept building while pushing me closer and closer towards the edge of my seat. Really, really can't wait till the final bow!!

I have a message for President Snow!
Katniss Everdeen: "You can torture or bomb us, blast our districts to the ground. But do you see that? Fire Is catching...If we burn, you burn with us!" This is the third installment of "The Hunger Games" franchise; and while it is a great film, you need to watch the first two installments to best appreciate it. Katniss, along with two other tribute survivors of the Quarterquell, are transported to District 13, where she is reunited with her mother and sister and best friend, Gale. District 13 was thought to have been completely destroyed by forces of the Capitol of Panem under President Snow (Donald Sutherland) but continues to exist as a potent military community deep underground. Katniss is asked by the District 13 leader, President Coin, to be the "Mockingjay" - the symbol of rebellion against the Capitol. After initially refusing, she agrees with the condition that Peeta Mallark and the other Quarterquell survivors be rescued and pardoned. Jennifer Lawrence again delivers a near perfect performance as Katniss; and she is supported by fine performances from Liam Hemsworth as Gale; Josh Hutcherson as Peeta; Woody Harrelson as Haymitch; and Elizabeth Banks as Effie, all of whom reprise their roles from the first two installments. Two new major characters, President Coin and Cressida are played well by Julianne Moore and Natalie Dormer. The film is dedicated to the deceased Phillip Seymour Hoffman, who reprises his role as Plutarch Heavensbee. The plot builds nicely to a totally satisfactory climax and a suitable lead-in to the the fourth and final installment. If you liked the first two movies in the franchise you will love this one

'Mockingjay - Part 1' is a dynamic addition to the 'Hunger Games' series
Katniss Everdeen doesn't want to be the Mockingjay, the symbolic head of the revolution aimed at toppling the status quo and establishing a new, democratic world government. But she may not have a choice for she, alone among all the previous Victors of the Hunger Games, is universally admired and has demonstrated her ability to - like Joan of Arc - rally people to her cause. This is the third of four installments of 'The Hunger Games' series and it does not disappoint, primarily because it relies more on an emotion-charged script than flashy special effects. (For those who love them, there are plenty of special effects in this movie but this installment doesn't depend upon them for its narrative. As they should be, in my opinion, the special effects add to the narrative but do not overwhelm it.) Jennifer Lawrence plays Katniss, as she has in the previous two installments, and she takes the role to new levels with her performance. In this installment Katniss is weary; she has been fighting to survive while trying to protect those she loves and that has taken a heavy toll on her. She is safe, for the moment, in District 13, which was supposedly wiped out many years before, and she would just like to live quietly with her mother and sister out of harm's way. In addition, although she was rescued her friend and companion Peeta was not. He remains in the Capitol and it is clear from broadcasts he has made on behalf of the government that something dreadful has happened to him. Watching him parrot the government's position also takes its toll on Katniss, who would like to put thoughts of overthrowing the Capitol behind her, at least for awhile. That likely will not happen, however, because District 13's leaders are pressuring her to step into the role of the Mockingjay and the sooner the better. They have planned an extensive propaganda campaign featuring her that is aimed at stirring up the rebellion against the Capitol and its ruler, President Snow (played superbly by Donald Sutherland.) She relents at last but she has conditions: Among them, District 13 must rescue Peeta and the other surviving Victors at its earliest opportunity. Lawrence again demonstrates her acting chops as she goes from world-weary Hunger Games Victor to rebel fighter, from battlefield leader to a young woman caught in the throes of despair. There is an especially poignant scene in which she visits a hospital full of wounded and dying men, women and children - the result of a Capitol air raid. Lawrence plays the scene with just enough weariness and humility to give great emotional depth to her performance. Lawrence is backed up with strong performances by Elizabeth Banks, Phillip Seymour Hoffman (in one of his final roles), Stanley Tucci (as a smarmy government spokesman) and Julianne Moore, as the President of District 13. 'Mockingjay - Part 1' is tightly written, well paced and both the cinematography and special effects are excellent. I highly recommend it.

Great movie! Super well done
I love this movie! There are scenes in here that were added to the movie, and for once, I'm glad they did. In Mockingay we are in Katniss's point of view, so most f the time we're guessing alongside with her. But in this movie they added they necessary amount of action, drama and suspense that was needed without taking from the larger story line. Most people who find it boring. have not read the book, because most of what she does in the first part of the book, reflected great on what she did in this movie. The movie ended in a brilliant spot (that honestly I was hoping they would end on) and set up the next movie brilliantly. They stayed extremely true to the book, and highlighted Katniss's PTSD great (as someone who would have to face TWO death games would have to endure). A great movie, looking forward to part 2.
