Adding honor as a factor in raising kids โฆand parent-child relationships. Dr. Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller offer a thorough program for establishing honor as a basis of family life โ not just children honoring parents, but parents respecting children and children honoring each other. Even if honor seems a long way off in your household, you will find practical suggestions here to bring that goal a little closer โ suggestions for kids of all ages. Honor is the biblical value that will bring about good behavior. Itโs more than just changing what kids do; itโs changing the deeper issues of the heart that triggered the behavior. Review: My favorite book on parenting! - I loved the honor-based approach presented in this book. It covers a lot of areas, including how siblings relate with one another and "the tunnel years" of the teens. And, it's not just about kids' attitudes, it also addresses parents' attitudes. The book has a lot of practical tips sprinkled throughout. One of my favorites is the simple statement, "Obey first, and then we'll talk about it." My favorite part of the book is the definition of honor: "Treating people as special, doing more than whatโs expected, and having a good attitude." The book also has a section with eight family together times (or devotions) to help families process what it means to show honor to one another. As we implement what we've read in this book, we're expecting our family -- two parents, two young kids -- to be better because of it! Review: This book leads you to water....you choose whether you are going to drink :) - This book has not just helped my children, it's helped me & their father! This book is one of the best, practical, helpful parenting books you'll find. It helped me to help myself which then helps my children. I already was putting some of these ideas into practice, but this book really helped to guide me and add to it. My children are fairly well behaved, but need help with whining & attitude, not to mention kindness. Most with each other. This book can transform your family, if you want it to. It's hard to raise kids, we are often short on time, but there is nothing more important than investing in your child's life/character. Change is a process and sometimes, often times, a slow one. These will give you the framework for helping your family get on the right track. Definitely recommend this, along with The Christian parenting handbook.

Great book.
This book offers insight into our own relationships with our kids and how parents' attitudes ultimately affect how our kids react to various situations in life. It is a book about honor, what honor is, and how to teach honor to yourself and your kids. It is a book about how to live your life and live it well...and pass that on to your kids. It has already helped me to be a better dad & husband, help keep the house clean, and stop complaining and being negative. There are religious aspects to the book (many bible readings to look up). But, no matter if you are Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Atheist, etc., you don't need to look up the bible readings to get the point. A very good book.

A lot of good content, but not always applicable
So, I will start this review with that I understood when I bought this book that is was a Christian book and I am not a Christian. However, from reading the views and the description I thought this book could still be applicable to me as a hopefully soon to be parent and in a lot of ways it was! I highlighted so many things in this book, so many awesome ideas especially in the beginning and middle of the booth. But, at other times it was very Christian centered which is great for Christians, but this is more a review for people who are thinking of buying this book, but aren't Christian. I feel like I got a lot of good content and a lot of helpful things to focus on with a future child. I love the techniques and I love it wasn't one of these "Positive Parenting" books that harps about no punishments or your typical parenting book which goes on and on about the virtues of positive reinforcement, which I believe just isn't enough and when used incorrectly can cause children to always expect something for good behavior. This book was about teaching children to do what is honorable, not just do as there told or the bare minimum. It talked about teaching children to anticipate needs in others, do more than is expected, treat others with respect, and have a good attitude. I think these are good values to teach no matter what your region/or non religion is, so in that respect this book is amazing and a valuable resource in any parenting library. However, just be aware it has a lot of Bible verses and the last two chapters of the book (before the activities) are really centered on Jesus and the Bible and the Christian Family which even those chapters had good non-religious insight, you just have to be willing to looks for the insights throughout the book that would apply to your home and life as well. I do wish I could find a book on honor based parenting that wasn't written from a religious perspective, just from a perspective of teaching the Golden Rule, but I think it is a unique idea (or at least a unique term) in the Christian World, but I digress, this book is worth buying and reading, it reads quick, just take a highlighter like I did and highlight what is most relevant to you.

Great content, large solid book, don't let the awful cover fool you!
This is a great, Christian, Biblical book with great themes. Don't let the silly cover fool you - is very theological and helpful.

Great ideas, easily implemented
I borrowed this from the library, and loved it so much, I purchased a copy! I will definitely continue to refer to it often over the remaining years of raising our 5 children with their unique personalities! This book outlines a very simple way to implement what we all want in our families: love, respect, and honor in action! The book gives scripture references along the way, and is definitely a book on parenting from a Biblical perspective. I feel the advice is very easy to implement in family life immediately, no matter the ages of your children! You can also sign up for a free weekly email newsletter at the authors' website.

GREAT parenting book!
I heard about this book through my church Sunday School class. It is GREAT! Offers wonderful and practical advice on how to parent to the "heart" of the child. Teaches parents the difference between a child "respecting" his parents and a child "honoring" her parents. I've read MANY parenting books but this one really opened my eyes up. Am I disciplining just to get the right response and just to "look" like a good parent? Or am I truly teaching my children the right behavior through the right attitude? Most helpful book. You won't be disappointed! PS - Our church also used teaching video made to accompany book (sold seperately)..it was *okay*...the book is MUCH more useful.)

A must read for all families!
The truth families need is not often the truth they want to hear. (Edited quote originally from Les Brown) Families are falling apart and such a simple fix is yet seen as too much work to implement. I gave this book 5 stars because it addressed an understanding of where all members of the family could be coming from in exhibiting all behaviors and gave not just biblical, but biblically practical methods of dealing and turning this around.

I was disappointed with this book
I was disappointed with this book, it wasn't what I thought it was going to be at all. The description of the book didn't indicate it was a Christian book with Christian values and exercises such as reading the bible. I don't personally have a problem with this but my children's father rejected the book based on this and it should have been detailed in the description as I wouldn't have made this purchase had I known.
