I do not need poe. Can i power the device by other means but still use the ethernet output to go to a extender

Hi, yes, I am powering my router from a 12v battery supply, it comes with a 12v adaptor to plug into the 240v mains. You can then use the LAN port to connect to a switch or directly to another ethernet device. It is a very simple and effective router.
