Build a net-zero energy greenhouse that pays for itself through energy savings and year-round food production. Complete construction plans and proven techniques for creating a solar-powered growing system that eliminates heating bills while providing fresh food 365 days a year. Why Solar Greenhouses Outperform Heated Versions: Traditional greenhouses consume massive energy for heating. This design captures and stores solar energy naturally, maintaining growing temperatures through the coldest months without ongoing costs. What You'll Build: Energy-efficient design - architectural plans optimized for maximum solar gain Thermal mass systems - store heat naturally without expensive equipment Automated climate control - ventilation that responds to temperature changes Year-round growing systems - crop rotation for continuous harvests Cost-benefit analysis - ROI calculations showing 3-5 year payback Real-World Results: Greenhouse builders report 80% heating cost reductions, year-round growing capability in climates down to -20°F, and complete payback through energy savings and food production within 5 years. Start your energy-independent growing system today. Everything you need to build, operate, and profit from solar greenhouse growing. Review: Great resource - Very informative; a lot of good ideas. They list resources for further information on topics that they don't go into a lot of detail. Review: Well read book - Wonderful book. Its so good and helpful ive loaned it to multiple clients to borrow while we are designing their greenhouse. Both clients returned book to me asap because they liked it so much they bought their own copy

Extremely useful.
I've read many books on hydroponics and aquaponics, however this book touches on necessities that need to be addressed before you get to the stage of building the actual grow beds, watering systems,etc.. Highly recommended for anyone intending to use a greenhouse.

Excellent material
Lindsey is an excellent writer making it an easy and interesting read. She covers many possible scenarios and leaves the reader with enough data to formulate a plan / design. Well worth the time and money invested.

Comprehensive book
This is a very comprehensive book on the different methods for building a green house that will majorly extend you season or even go year-round, unlike a normal green house. Because it covers so many techniques, it is a little lacking on full details for implementing any one in particular. If you aren't really good at figuring things out, you may want to use this book to determine what techniques you want to implement and then get another book to get more details. If you are extra handy, this is probably enough to get the job done.

great examples. The amount of solar mass needed is ...
Everything it says it is and more. Well written, lots of references, great examples. The amount of solar mass needed is largely based on high altitude, clear skies, but enough explanation is given I should have no trouble building a passive solar greenhouse in Salem, Oregon. Altitude about 135 feet and lots of overcast days (weeks or months). Barrels, plastic or steel, are too expensive for me, $50.00 each. Gas 50 gallon hot water heaters are free and not much trouble removing the foam insulation. Extremely pleased I bought this book.

Great resource
This book gives both recommendations, AND the reasons why. Most helpful. There are no arguments in this book, just a lot of good discussions. I very much appreciate the time and dedication the authors put into this treatise. I am now more confident than ever that I can build a year-round solar greenhouse in Wyoming at 5,500 feet elevation, that will not eat my lunch in energy bills. Another thing I found very helpful were the recommendations for further reading. 3 more books to digest this winter.

Clear writing, thorough coverage of the topic.
I am working with Ms. Schiller's company to design a small solar greenhouse modeled on her principles. This is a very thorough and well written book that should open up new worlds for someone accustomed to thinking that greenhouses are nothing but metal channel and clear panes of glazing. In particular the underground piping system, the GAHT system described here, is a very affordable breakthrough to create a greenhouse that will function year round. I tried to introduce these concepts to a fellow resident of my town who chose to ignore them. His greenhouse fish pond froze over this past winter. Such a thing is inconceivable if you follow these principles and guidelines.

Fantastic book
Fantastic book. Very informative, detailed, and evidence-based. Plenty of descriptions, diagrams, tables, case studies etc. Gives a great overview of your options and also gives recommendations for further reading where the book doesn't go into great detail. Easily one of the best books I have ever read.
