Miraculous Bouquets: Flower and Fruit Paintings by Jan van Huysum

If you like getting up close to a painting and looking at the brushwork, this is the best little book. Very clear, detailed close-ups of two Van Huysum paintings, so you can study dew drops, bees, ants, butterflies, and petals. Small, portable size, which I thought might be a drawback, but it’s just right, making the details about life sized, and easy to thumb through for inspiration before painting.

Yes, I read the negative reviews. Yes, it is a small book. Yes, few pages. Have you priced a book on Dutch floral paintings? Most are $100 or more. This little $10 book is a gem. All the color plates are gorgeous and give a good glimpse of the detail in two Van Huysum paintings. Very inspiring. This is a book to study over and over. I would highly recommend this book.

It's a nice little book with some very high quality detail photos of two of Van Huysum's paintings at the Getty. The only downside is that it's very small. One can only imagine how fantastic the photos would look if they could double the size of the book.

Nice. Perfect fruit to paint by. Not so much for the flowers though.

This is only a little book, at first I was slightly disappointed as I had expected more full colour plates rather than pictures of many small sections of a few paintings. However, it's grown on me a bit as it does give one a chance to study detail more closely. It's useful in its own way, but am sorry to say that it's not the first book I'd recommend people to go out to buy.

Insuffisant et quelque peu décevant

Pocket sized but what a sparkling, shining jewel of a book. To a Jan van Huysum fan like me it is exquisite from start to finish. Truthfully, I haven't taken much notice of the (learned, academic, but accessible) text, savouring instead the close-up photographs from two of his most beautiful works. The detail van Huysum achieved in paint is extraordinary and humbling. Can anyone paint like that now? I don't know. But this little book has inspired me to at least try and imitate the master with a few flower images - in my case photographs - of my own.

I really adore this book, I wish there are more books like this on artist that I like, I would but a bunch!! It includes two very representative works of Van Huysum late career, the close up shots are amazing to see and perhaps figure out how the artist worked.

ポケットサイズの本だが ３５点程の作品が掲載されている。その本の構成上 ディテールが多く 画家の手業の凄さが伝わって来る。 質感・存在感が素晴らしい。 花は 時間との勝負で 技術の確かさが無いと ここまで描く事は難しいだろう。 ジャン・バンホイスムのデッサン集もあるが 余り精密では無く ザクッと描かれている。何といっても鳥の巣の描写は神業に近いと思う。 それを 沢山のモティーフを構成要素として、一つの作品としているのは 凄い能力だと思う。 古典には、凄い手技 美意識 造形力を持った画家達が 綺羅星の如くいる。

Was smaller than i expected but illustration and are fabulous !
