What are the assembled dimensions?

The 14/16 is 15.5" x 16" x 29" and the 29/32 is 20.5" x 20.75" x 29".

I have a 20x18.5 inch tank, roughly 40 gallons. Will this hold it?

Yes pretty sure it will.. I have the same size tank but 32 gals. its a sturdy piece of furniture'

How can this support a 30 gal fish tank? It's not long enough and neesd support the full length. False advertising?

This stand is made for the 32gal Bio-cube tank, it has a specific shape not like a standard 30 gal rectangle. I had this set up in my office and actually the stand is pretty nice and it held up no problem.
