The best rotary cutter I've ever used - and I've used a LOT of them!
I've been using rotary cutters for more than 30 years to cut art papers, art prints, photos and cloth. I've used cutters from many brands, from generic to the best rated Fiskars models, but this is my first Olfa cutter. I had heard good things about Olfa for years, so when my last Fiskars cutter disappeared, I decided to give this one a try when I saw it on sale. I'm so glad that I did! This is the best rotary cutter I've ever used in terms of ergonomics, precision, and general ease of use. What I love about this rotary cutter... 1) The 60mm sized blade is simply wonderful to use. It's sharp and precise. It handles multiple sheets of heavyweight watercolor paper or thick layers of fabric (canvas, denim, faux leather, etc.) with ease. I can get through long cuts more quickly than I can with a 45mm blade, with less pressure required for cutting thick layers. I am able finish large amounts of cutting with less effort, which helps spare my hands in the process. That said, it's not just blade size that makes a cutter easy to use, but also the ergonomics of its design. 2) When it comes to ergonomics, this rotary cutter really shines. I find it very comfortable to use, even for extended periods. This is important when you have a lot of papers or materials to get through. The blade position can be easily swapped from one side of the cutter to the other, depending on whether you work with your right or left hand. The contour of the handle feels very natural to hold, the lever to release the blade is smooth/easy to engage, and the locking mechanism is wonderful. Some rotary cutters cause my hand to cramp up after extended use, but this one has not been an issue at all. 3) Lets talk about that locking mechanism for a minute. The blade lock on this cutter is very easy to access and engage. This makes a world of difference when I have a lot of cutting to do! The locks on my last two Fiskars cutters (45mm and 60mm) were placed at the top of the cutter, in front of the handle. I found them so awkwardly placed, stiff, and difficult to engage that I typically didn't use them while cutting. That is not the case with this cutter. I can quickly and easily lock the blade in the extended position with my thumb and get right to work! I don't need to fuss to engage the lock or hold the handle to keep the blade engaged. Additionally, when the blade is locked in its disengaged position I have no concerns that it may pop out accidentally. It's incredibly secure, regardless of the blade position when it's locked in place. 4) The blade in this cutter moves very smoothly and cuts are incredibly precise. There is no wiggle, wobble, or problem with jagged areas when it is used alongside a metal ruler. I do take a little extra care when using plastic rulers since the blade is really sharp and can nip the plastic easily if you're cutting quickly. The unit is consistent from the start of a cut to the end, even across a long sheet of thick paper or multiple layers of fabric. I have not tried specialty blades with it yet, but would expect them to perform equally well! Overall, I have to give this 60mm Olfa rotary cutter a full five stars. It is so well designed and easy to work with that I can use it for extended periods without having to fuss, experience discomfort, or put much thought into it. It just works well, which is exactly what you want when you have a lot of cutting to do. As I stated at the beginning of this review, this is hands down the best rotary cutter I have ever used for its ergonomics, precision, and general ease of use. And, I've used a LOT of them over the years! I wholeheartedly recommend it!

Great Tool for Cutting Fabric for Quilts
This is my favorite fabric cutting tool. I like the squeeze handle better than the other option of sliding the blade on the handle. I feel it is the safer of the two options.

Best we have ever had.
My wife has struggled with fabric rotary cutter. Due to previous surgery's, her strength in her arms and shoulders is limited. Other rotary cutter left her near tears even with new blades. With this cutter she can sail through the fabric. She has been cutting all day with rest periods, and the last cut was as easy as the first.

Love it!
Absolutely love it! Cuts accurately and through the material with ease. Blade opens when gripping the handle and closes when released. Great safety feature.

Holy cow! I had no idea....
I am oh so new to the world of sewing. I am teaching myself to quilt by watching YouTube videos. I am enjoying it very much. I had a 45mm rotary cutter which worked pretty well. This would pop up during my searches and I decided to read the reviews and description. I had no idea what the difference was. Oh my goodness. What a difference. This cut through my quilt layers (pretty sure there is a technical term that I can't remember right now for quilt layers lol) with ease. I didn't have to roll over the layers more than once. Maybe it was a user error with my other rotary cutter, but I had little effort put into this one. I hesitated to buy this because it was a bit pricey. I purchased mine from the Amazon warehouse and saved a couple of bucks. But honestly it was worth every penny and knowing now how amazing it is I highly recommend it. I had no issues with the blade that came with it. It did have oil on it. But it was not dull. So happy with this, I simply cannot say enough about it. Update August 2024 I had purchased some non Olfa branded replacement blades. I didn't give it much thought because the blades had good reviews, however I was growing disappointed with my Olfa cutter. I recently purchased an Olfa replacement blade and just used it tonight. Oh what a difference. It cuts like butter again. One pass and clean cuts. I still highly recommend this rotary cutter.

Way better than scissors for most of my fabric-cutting jobs
The shape, handle size and the way it automatically retracts for safety all seem very well-thought-out for comfort and efficiency. Changing blades is easy

A quality cutter. But am I using I wrong?
I chose this cutter because of the reviews, and with the knowledge that the OLFA company invented it. Surely first is best. Some of the reviews said it 'cut like butter'. I disagree. I found I had to place it perpendicular to the fabric and exert a lot of pressure. Sometimes even going back and forth. I was only cutting thin cotton for a child's quilt. After making a number of cuts my shoulder was a bit sore. Was I doing it wrong? My technique off? A friend was over prior to my ordering it and just with one swipe her fabric was cut. Any suggestions are welcome. I have pretty much gone back to scissors for most of my cuts. 1/9/24. I had stopped using it when I didn’t have success making things for Christmas gifts. Today I showed it to a very experienced quilter and she couldn’t cut with it as well. She said it was dull and was probably dull to start with. She gave me a new blade and it cut beautifully. Shame on OLFA for sticking me with a dull blade.

Made a great gift for my MIL who loves sewing. It was such a good buy I ended up getting one for myself too. Very sharp, came with replacement blades. Good quality plastic and handle for a comfortable grip. I adore that it has the safety and the size is just right.
