is it possible to use this prop for hold bowls of chips, snacks, etc

It would be possible as long as It stayed dry. It is made of cardboard and might be hard to clean food spills.

Will this survive rain? I want to use it in my yard

I am not sure of the actual survivability. We had purchased to use in the yard to be "carried" by skeletons. Once it arrived it was immediately clear that what I received was a coffin that was a purple color and NOT black as in the description. There were black colorations in the design but it was overall a purple color.
