No it is not, it contains metallic drying agents. Food grade mineral oil is likely your best option.

It really depends on the furniture you bought. Usually finished furnitures have a finish coating on them or are already oiled. I would suggest you to sand them before application. Remember that furnitures previously oiled might not look good if you re-oil them with a different type of oil than the one previously applied to them.
