My brown placemats are very different from the pictures, is that common? The dark brown is really dark and the beige side is a medium brown.

I ordered the brown placements and desired a dark brown and received what I believe looks just like the picture.

Will they protect a wood table?

I use them a lot to protect my dining room Table and to make it look very nice. I wash them in the kitchen sink if my son gets food on them and they are holding up very well.

Are these really anti-slip? I've had placemats that claim to be anti-slip but aren't.

They don’t slide around a lot, but I don’t know if I would call them anti-slip

Can these be trimmed to a shorter width with a utility knife?

Yes , I think they can be trimmed, but I would use scissors.
