My husband installed and the gate swings both ways, away from AND toward/down our stairs. How do we adjust so it only swings away?

U can't the gate is designed to swing both ways. But maybe screw a 90 degree bracket into the wall so it acts as a stop for the gate?

how to open the gate? Is it a sliding door?

This is not a sliding door. It opens forward onto the the floored area. It is a great gate.....the nice part is when you are not using it the gate can be removed. I tried several gates and this is my all time favorite!

Could a cat fit through the bars? How wide apart are they?

I have this gate at the top of the stairs and in the bathroom doorway. I just installed it further off the ground so the cat goes under it without a problem.

Can they be used with no drill adaptors such as the KidCo? I have iron wrought balusters which I will need to buy adaptors for to use this gate on.
