The grand cardamom experiment
I've had this product quite some time now and never used it. Depending on where I look, some say these are black cardamom or white cardamom. I removed the outer husk from a small pile and ground it down in a marble mortar and pestle. I had also bought some Spice Way green cardamom seeds that already had the husk removed. The Green cardamom has a pleasant citrus aroma. I put a pinch of it in the coffee in my single cup coffeemaker. This cardamom has a eucalyptus (think Vicks VapoRub) aroma. I guess I'll try some with coffee to see how it reveals itself. I bought both for use in baking but haven't tried them yet.

So much more flavorful than the typical ground spice you buy in the supermarket!
I received an Asian cookbook for my birthday this year, and have begun to experiment with the recipes. I tried out one recently that called for cardamom pods. Turns out that there are at least three different types (colors) of Cardamom pods that are commonly used in Indian and southeast Asian cooking. This is the sort that is recommended for Singaporean dishes, and is less common than the other two types. After cooking with the pods, I can attest that they provide a wonderful flavor to the food, so much better than what you get in a bottle of ground cardamom! You don't need much for a typical dish, just a couple of pods, so even though the package seems somewhat expensive, t should be good for many, many main courses!

Probably better to buy at a grocer
These are of poor quality. Breaking open the pods, I had to pick and choose through the seeds and hulls to get enough to grind.
