She Who Must Be Obeyed

A disappointing collection of lesbian erotica. Some of the stories are very good, but several are disappointing lacing a true sexual component expressing the intimacy that one looks for in reading these stories.

Great road trip reading

This collection of femme-domme lesbian erotica is smoking hot! As per usual, D.L. King selects only the hottest, hardest and deepest erotic stories for her anthologies. Published by LGBTQ independent press Lethe, “She Who Must Be Obeyed” delivers on the promise of its delicious cover.While there are many author names you might recognize in here (Rachel Kramer Bussel, Sacchi Green, Teresa Noelle Roberts, among others) all the stories are professional and well crafted. Some personal favorites include “Uncharted Territory,” by Evan Mora, an anal-reward tale about a mistress and her boi; “The Dame,” by Styx St. John, an old-timey butch and her babe story; and “Mares In Heat,” by Evey Brett, an oater with a demanding equestrian-riding boss and her (mostly) willing worker.Some complaints—the typeface is confusing and hard to read, the paper is thin and the print is glossy/reflective on its surface, and the book itself cracked and fell apart on its first reading. The stories inside deserve better (including a good proofreading!). But if you are not as picky/selective as I am, you probably won’t notice. I am assuming these are cost-cutting measures for a smaller press.

I love lesbian erotica involving dominant butches pursuing beautiful, submissive femme women to capture and enjoy, but that's not what this is. No, D.L. King prefers stories in which the femmes are the dominant ones, and the butches are submissive. I, for one, find this to be completely backwards, and the erotica potential was squandered as a result. The book's cover is more erotic than the stories, unless you like your butches obedient and meek, in which case you're in for a treat!

I have to admit, I had to re-read after the first five stories because it seemed as though something was missing. After reading the first three stories the second time, I thought perhaps the authors ended the stories too soon. Then, after getting through several other stories, it dawned on me...the stories weren't incomplete - I simply didn't want them to end.This amazing collection includes some of the most notable authors in the genre, including Sacchi Green, Rachel Kramer Bussel, Jessica Lenox, and Beth Wylde. Some stories take us places others dare not venture ("Bleed," by Teresa Noelle Roberts), while Wylde's "Anger Management" is just so....fabulous. And sexy as hell. Oh, before I forget, those who like their erotica a little....daring, Mary Tintagel's "The Nose Art Girl" is so outside the box, it makes the Mile High Club seem tame.Those stories are just a few of the nuggets that are to be uncovered in She Who Must Be Obeyed. So please, bois and girls, enjoy. I certainly did.
