The ball is a plush ball, so it doesn't bounce like a normal basketball

Does it not need to be screwed into the wall?

No necessarily, it has clips to hang from the door. It's the best basketball hoop by far. You can screw it too or even I made a bespoke support using the same holes. Honestly, highly recommended.

Can this hoop be fitted directly onto a wall or can it only be fitted to hang over a door?

Hung over door it's amazing 👏 🙌
