The video doorbell acts in a system including smartphone router and internet provider
I bought the essential wireless doorbell and chime to allow a normal doorbell action, and also to be able to get a call on my phone when out, to be able to have a two-way conversation with the visitor at the door, especially while driving. This is now working but there are a few aspects to understand.1. There is a delay in the working system. The system includes the doorbell, smartphone, router and Internet Provider. In my case the delay from pressing the doorbell button to getting a phone call is about 4 seconds – perfectly OK. However, the delay from speaking into the phone, to then receiving the reply on the phone screen/speaker from the visitor is also about 3 seconds in total i.e. the latency is a total of 3 seconds. This takes a bit of discipline for a 2 way conversation, but at least the audio and video from the visitor is practically synchronised on the phone. I have a standard setup running at 30Mb/s, and the doorbell is only about 2 metres from the router, through a brick wall. Arlo ‘chat’ suggested that an ‘acceptable’ system delay could be up to 10seconds, so I feel lucky. Some forums have the delay much worse.2. The phone call is via the internet. Therefore, the phone mobile data needs enabled, or linked to a local wi-fi. I also found that the phone call could not be answered in my car via the car Bluetooth call accept button . This is because the accept button is within the app, not your normal phone accept button.I had to have the phone screen within reach to answer the call, so the phone is now on a holder on the dashboard within reach. Other cars may be different, but for me, this means the video screen from the door is also visible on the phone , and an obvious distraction while driving. So I just have to keep my eyes on the road , and use the audio conversation only.3. The audio levels of my system are OK for my ears, with the phone about 30cm from my mouth, and the visitor was within pressing button distance of the doorbell. However, once again, in my car ( other cars may be different) ,the audio input and output must be via the phone, not the car Bluetooth microphone/speaker , so car noise can be a problem – in my case, I have to shout at high speeds.4. Since I am not doing ‘active monitoring’, the battery is lasting a long time. However, I will be installing a transformer to trickle charge the battery, as I intend to monitor for someone coming to the door but not ringing the bell. I don’t think Arlo make the point well enough about the battery drain while monitoring, but they at least have designed the kit to take external power.5. On normal doorbell action, the phone also rings as it is connected to my wi-fi. This can be disabled by going into ‘silent mode’. But it means remembering to disable this when going out. I have just put up with the phone call.6. Finally, if any recording from the video needs done, a subscription is required. I’m trying to avoid this. However, at present I have a 3 month ‘free trial’ which allows recording, but perhaps it also enables some of the above features. I’ll find out soon enough.I'm happy enough with the product.

Wifi door bell yep it's here
So wifi door bell it's here this is it. OK some go to ring but I came here why ... its easy to install and pairs up nicely. Hardest thing was plugging in my solar pannel charger other then that it's great. Only down side is that if I don't have good phone network out the house theirs a bit of a delay when speaking to whom ever. Video quality is good day or night. Takes a little to understand the boundary settings but get your head round that in no time. Wish it had a press an record feature on the door bell it self to a sd card. Otherwise it's great all info on yr phone.
