The shelf come apart into two pieces. The back thinner/skinny piece slides off the larger piece of the shelf from the dowel rods between them. There are pre-drilled screw holes on the thinner piece that you screw directly into the wood with provided 2 1/2" dry wall screws. Then just slide the larger piece of shelf back onto the dowel rods and your done!
