Sand Dipper Jr - Long Handle Back Saver Hygienic Cat Litter Scoop

The Sand Dipper Jr with the long handle is fantastic! It makes digging and building sandcastles so much easier without bending over and straining my back. The handle length is just right, and the scoop is sturdy and well‑designed to move sand quickly and efficiently. I’ve used it several times at the beach, and it holds up great — no bending, no aching lower back, just fun. It’s lightweight but durable, perfect for adults and older kids. Easily one of the best beach tools I’ve added to my summer gear. Highly recommend if you want to keep your back happy and speed up sand play!

I initially bought this for my handicapped dad to use to take care of my cat's litter box while I was away. I came back and took over. Perhaps it's sad I would get excited to see how much better this tool was to use in a litter box than the typical cat litter scoops. The unclumped litter falls through the holes easily and leaves the clumps, making scooping of the crap much faster. Totally streamlined the process of cleaning the litter box. Another plus is the length. You don't have to get your face in the boxes and die from the ammonia poisoning. The long stick keeps you a safer distance from the litter smells. Sturdy product too. Good purchase.

The metal poles screw together for a solid fit and provide an additional point of structural rigidity. The scoop itself has square holes that are larger than those on most short-handled scoops with slotted openings. The scoop is also fairly deep. As a result, dry litter sifts through rapidly without the need for back-and-forth shaking, This virtually eliminates airborne dust and dander. It also causes the solids to move quickly to the bottom of the scoop. Most scoops with slit openings sift far more slowly, needing a lot of shaking. That produces more dust. And sometimes solids ride along on top of the litter, eventually falling out before you can scoop it up. Designwise, this scoop gets high marks, THe angle is perfect for scooping the poop, as well as for scraping the sides of the litter box when necessary. As for the length of the pole (handle) being too short (27") for use while standing, I tried it both standing and sitting. I am 5'2" tall. It is perfect for me. Your mileage may vary. If the handle was much longer, it might be unwieldy when you dump the contents into your garbage. I think it is just perfect as designed.

I like 1) Not having to put my nose close to litter. 2) Cushioned grip 3) Not having to bend so far 4) Sifts cleanly with high quality, hard clumping litter. I did not like 1) Pole did not telescope longer. I am tall and still had to bend. For those with pain - there will be pain. 2) Small basket. This will only work for kittens if a low quality litter is used and stuff will stick to the metal. 3) Cannot scrape the bottom of the pan. I am using disposable, biodegradable litter pans for now. Helpful tips: 1) Extend the handle using a wooden dowel and duct tape. 2) Use excellent quality tight clumping litter. 3) Use disposable litter boxes. My decision to purchase the Sand Dipper Jr was that a geriatric cat required litter box retraining, but I can’t bear the smell of soiled cat litter or perfumed litter. A geriatric cat began to urinate outside the litter box. Drastic measures were required. After a thorough but pricey vet visit, the supremely healthy geriatric queen of the cats was discovered to not like “wet feet.” We had changed to a cheaper litter that did not absorb quickly. She didn’t like the taste of other cat urine on her feet or even her own urine. She likes a fine litter that feels like sand and does not feel wet when she digs to cover her waste. This scooper is not the best or most efficient, but works fantastic with superior odor sealing, sand-like, and hard clumping litter. Even the huge clumps were lifted by the scooper. This scooper does not work well with low quality or non clumping litter. This scooper works well for my purposes. I just bought a second one for the upstairs reusable cat litter box. With the extended handle, I can scoop more often with less pain. The urinating outside the litter box has stopped. All is well and smells great. I will be modifying the handle to make it longer. With superior clumping litter, nothing sticks to the metal basket. I have not tried this scooper with reusable plastic pans but suspect if the litter sticks to the plastic pan, this scooper would not be effective for stuck waste. Our goal is to avoid waste sticking to the bottom of the pan and so far our system is working by using very tight hard clumping litter that clumps quickly and frequent scooping. I scoop more when the smell is zero. This scooper helps me scoop more often. The negative reviews occur when the product is mismatched to the consumer’s need. I hope you found this review helpful in your decision making process.

This item fit my needs perfectly. I have a round, igloo type covered letterbox. I have never found a scoop that not only was long enough to keep me away from the dust, but worked beautifully on the rounded corners of my litterbox. As it is marine grade metal, I feel confident that dipping it in sanitized water to clean, will not cause it to rust. It is a very sturdy product, and just the right length. It's good for my back, my lungs, as well as my very sensitive nose.

I used this for shelling on my vacation to Sanibel Island. I'm 5'4" and 55 years old with arthritis. I was worried it would be too short and I would still have to bend. I actually worked out fine. Our condo had beach stuff and I was able to use the next size up. I think it's called mid. I actually did prefer that size. As for the item it's self. It is sturdy yet lightweight and works GREAT. I absolutely love the tool but next trip I may buy the mid size.

Awesome!! Except as described, makes cleaning the litter box so much easier on my back.

Works well. Seems sturdy and is definitely helpful picking things up on the beach. I do prefer the another brand I’ve seen because when the scoop part screws off it leaves a hiking pole that you can extend. If I was to order another scoop I would look for the brand that can also be used as hiking stick.
