Why does it have this smell like rancid/fishy is this normal?

It does have an odor, which is mentioned in the description. It is made from soybeans... and while it is does have an odor it dissipates. Mixing with a carrier oil (like jojoba) is a great way to use this product. By itself it is sticky and thick. All that being said is that by far the best moisturizer I've used - face, neck hands all feel soft and supple. After washing my face whie it is damp moves it around wonderfully. I use 4 to 1 ratio with jojoba oil. Perfect night time oil. Wake up with a fresh glow - no oily or dry skin anymore.

Is the fishy smell normal?

Mine smells fishy but it's not strong and dissipates within about 15 minutes. I use it on my hands and an application of regular hand lotion covers up any odor. The oil heals cracks in my skin overnight, so I'm very happy with the product.

How do you use this on your hair?

I have no hair. I use it to lubricate my hearing aids in my ear canal. I know this sounds disgusting but it appears to work.

Yes the slightly fishy smell is normal and doesn’t reflect the quality of the product nor does it mean poor storage. This is an excellent product and that slight odor dissipates quickly. I mix mine with a rose carrier oil and can’t detect any fishy odor at all when I mix it.
