A sobering take on deprived kids
Reading this book, was a pleasure - a clichéd page turner. There are parts that make you gasp, sentences that sting and a realism behind it for anyone who knows what it is like to live in, work in and teach children who are not just economically, but socially and spiritually deprived. The author shows this in a fatalistic manner, which reflects the current socio-economic problems that arise in anytown Britain. The characters feel real and reflect friends that we all had growing up through teenage years and the side characters are as compelling as the main ones, Dillon probably being my most liked of the diverse characters that are used throughout the tale. The end felt rather rushed, and the twist at was a bit contrived but overall I throughly enjoyed this book and would consider it a must read for anyone who wants appreciates and understands the trials and tribulations of adolescence in modern Britain.

Brilliant
This is a brilliant book that is beautifully written.I was intrigued from the start and found the characters to be very believable. It’s a heartbreaking and poignant rags to riches tale that will grip you. I can’t recommend enough.

A really gripping modern fairytale story, expertly written.
Fit by Sammy Wright is a cracking read, with a quick plot and exact prose. The writing creates space for some extreme feelings (not felt since my own adolescence) - sometimes funny, sometimes painful, sometimes sad - and the events described always felt real. I think it is really well written with short words and sentences which describe just enough for me that I could create the full picture with my own experience and I got sucked in really quickly - I was hooked really early on - when the wolf pricked up his ears - it is a fairy tale with very modern people. I'd say it was brilliant - and I want more!

An absorbing, beautifully written book
The characters are tenderly and sympathetically painted, written with subtlety and love. A pleasure to read, I plan to return to it again soon, which is not something I do often. Highly recommend.

Brilliant rags to riches (sort of) story.
This is such a well-written, intelligent page turner. It’s quite a dark look at the massive gap between those who come from solid and relatively privileged backgrounds and those who grow up in a world of poverty, trauma and neglect. But it’s also funny at times and extremely well observed. Highly recommend.
