insightful if slightly far-fetched
Not averse to a bit of sport and politics, so picked this up on the strength of the title alone. Certainly the reader learns in vivid detail of life, particularly for women, under the taliban with its public executions and excessive punishments for breaking the code. This side of the book was excellent. However, as the story unfolded, I began to find the whole cricket match and escape that followed a bit unbelievable, although of course we got the ending we wanted.

Easy to read interesting book
Easy to read, theme seemed rather far fetched and the ending left lots of loose ends, but captured well the fear of living in an authoritarian state

A book for our times
Excellent book, I could not put it down. Tim Murari writes in a fluid and amusing way and about a subject which is constantly in our national Press. Need to have two people reading it consecutively as s o much you want to discuss with someone else as you read.

Fantastic read
Really enjoyed this - the descriptions, the tension and the cricket against the violence - a good read!

An Afghanstani teen-aged female teaching cricket to her male relatives.
A real go-ahead young woman with spirit and spunk. For a non-cricket fan, I learned much about the games rules and regulations.
