40 Classic Soul Sides Set

Near perfect set. Consists of singles, album tracks and 3 non LP cuts. Essential for fans and completists as well. Thoroughly enjoyable from beginning to end. The upper tiers of Sweet Philly Soul. The set focuses on 1968-1972 during the group's heyday. Selections from 1974's "Alive & Kicking" are missing and both the instrumental and vocal versions of "Delfonics Theme" were unnecessary but these are minor issues. I would only take off half a star if possible. I am listening to this set non stop with no end in sight at this time. I highly recommend this selection.

The Delfonics in a class by themselves their style and songs are above and beyond old school all the way around.....EXCELLENT.

Others gripe about what's not here, but just the fact that Sony OK'd this collection for issue is a miracle in itself, since the A&R people of record conglomerates these days are barely out of diapers and won't reissue anything more than a few years old (save for overpriced repackages of "classic albums" in worthless anniversary boxed sets).The sound is wonderful, given that the original vinyl had its issues. There was an Arista disc, "La-La-Means I Love You: The Definitive Collection" issued in 1998 which was 20-bit remastered, followed by Buddha's reissue of the first three albums on CD in 2001, and Ace Records (UK) two-fers issued in 2008. The sound here may surpass those, given jumps in technology, but only by incrememts.This has also been released digitally (exact same repertoire) as "The Essential Delfonics", but for those of us who need a physical copy, here it is.
