I am 80 and my stomach does not produce sufficient acid to completely digest food, particularly protein. In addition to poor nutrient absorption, particularly Vit B12, slow motility and the presence of partially digested food, coupled with bacteria ingested with consumed food, results in bacteria eating the food. This produces gas which can easily get up into the upper respiratory tract and cause irritation of the throat, lungs and sinuses. This type of reflux is called LPR and is due to very deficient levels of naturally occurring stomach acid. My symptoms involved hoarseness starting about 30 minutes after eating, especially a meal containing protein. I also developed a large nasal pollyp that had to be removed. However, since starting to take HCL right after a meal, I do not get any symptoms. The number of capsules to take depends on how deficient your stomach acid is. Since I follow a high fat, moderate protein and low cab diet I normally take from three to five capsules with each meal. To determine the ideal dose you you, start with one capsule after a meal, and if you do not experience any stomach irritation, continue to slowly add capsules until you do get a bloated or burning sensation. When that occurs, back off one capsule and that would be your routine dosage. For smaller meals, take fewer capsules. HCL also works for those suffering from acid reflux. When stomach acid is low but above pH 2.5, the Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES) that normally keeps acid out of the esophagus, doesn't close properly, allowing some acid to get into the esophagus and casue the burning sensation. Taking supplemental acid lowers the pH below 2.5 and allows the LES to shut properly.

I've been taking Betaine HCL now for 36 years, this after reading about its benefits in a book called "Dr. Wright's Book on Nutritional Therapy".. .As we age, our digestive system slows down, and our stomach's oftentimes don't produce enough acid to break down our foods.. Just remember: TAKE THEM WITH YOUR MEALS.. You want them in your stomach, not lying in your esophagus for any length of time as the lining of your stomach is equipped to deal with acids.. Your esophagus, not so much.. So make sure you take them WITH a meal, not after.. These Soloray capsules are among the easiest to swallow that I have ever taken.. PS: I'm 86 this year and still in decent health!

I can not be without these! Every time I eat meat I must take several of these. I started slow, 1 pill with a heavy meat meal at first and then add 1 extra pill everyday until I hit my limit. When you get a slight burn in stomach go back to the amount before. When you get that burn you can drink a little baking soda in water to calm it. I never take these if I have alcohol with my meal. Also, I don’t use them with no meat or little meat meals. This is just my experience. I have noticed that I absorb iron better being that I am always iron deficient and my indigestion has improved. My sinus issues are way better since I’ve introduced these to my diet. I won’t go over 6 pills with my heavy meat meals because I think the bottle says not to exceed so many in a day.(not sure the number not to exceed)I’m not a doctor, I’m just a girl with an opinion that wants to share what worked for me.

La pastilla me ha ayudado bastante con mi digestión, antes si comía más o menos pesado me levantaba con mala digestión y desde que estoy utilizando estas pastillas no he tenido mala digestión por nada.
