Q: does the ramp fold down flat inside the platform, & does the platform fold up towards the truck bed while connected?

The ramp does not fold down flat inside the platform: it "rides" as photographed (in the upright position). The platform is fixed and does not fold at all; The ramp is the only part of this cargo carrier that moves. I hope this helps!

it easily folds in half, and safely secures.

Q: does it come assemble?

No. But assembly is easy. We assembled it in about 30 minutes in our living room.

Q: can the ramp be switched to opposite side?

No the ramp can't be switched, the rail on the opposite side is riveted in place.There is nothing on the ramp side bottom to fasten the rail to.
