Total ripoff. Do not buy
This is a complete ripoff. It's just a plastic bag with salt and sugar. Absolutely not worth the price. It's also annoying because the "cure" mix just says cure on it. Given that the bottle contents are pink, it's hard to tell if it's a mix or straight curing salt. If it were the latter, using the whole bottle could be detrimental to one's health. There are WAY better and more complete kits out there for the same price or lower. Get those instead.

so I'm excited to see how he will enjoy making his own bacon
I bought this for my husband as a gift and have not given it to him yet. He enjoys grinding his own breakfast sausage, so I'm excited to see how he will enjoy making his own bacon. I'm certain he will love it!

Not Impressed
I Wish I could return this item. All that you get is salt& sugar for $30:(.Everyone has those ingredients in their kitchen. I should have written the descriptions and reviews better.

Good for a gift or first timer, but…
Got this as a gift. Never had made my own bacon but smoked a lot of other meats.Pros: good for first timers that want to try making their own bacon. Pretty straight forward and easy. Just throw the pork belly and ingredients in the bag, refrigerate, flip each day for 7 days, remove pork, pat dry and put in the smoker. I did use the maple sugar. Came out very good… better than any store bought.Cons: expensive for what you get. Like others have said, for the price they should include the 5 lbs. of pork belly. Another thing is I could not get a 5 lb. pork belly, they usually run in the 8-9 lbs range. Plan on doing something else with what’s left over… I made pork belly burnt ends.As other have said, much cheaper to do a little research on curing your own bacon, get the ingredients and make your own. You won’t be disappointed. I have 17 lbs. curing as I write this. Ingredients (less pork) cost under $15 and you’ll have enough to last a long time.
