Product works well with drill bits help keep it cool and cutting. It is my second bottle. I wanted one to keep at home. The other larger bottle is at work. I have used it about two years.

Great drilling oil for my mag drill. Helps the bit to last longer and drill faster. Keeping costs down in a long run.

This cutting fluid is fantastic! It works great for threading, drilling, and tapping. The lubrication reduces friction and keeps tools running smoothly. I noticed a significant improvement in both speed and accuracy while machining. Highly recommend it to anyone doing metalworking or repairs!

I used this oil with a quality tap and it cut through the engine block like butter! Zero damage to the tap - still as sharp as it was brand new. Great stuff.

This product helps in the ease of threading the hole that you will be taping. Also it helps to prevent the tap from getting bound up while threading. Great product,this is a must have product in the machining process.

As a machinist, (now retired), for 23+ years, I can say that this is one of the most popular cutting oils in the trade and has been for at least 44 years and probably a lot longer than that, (I started as a machinist apprentice when I was 14 yrs. old). It’s a very high quality cutting oil and in machine shops, it's primarily used as a cutting oil for Tap and Die work as well as single point threading. However, it can work as a good cutting oil to do small metal cutting jobs in a DIY home operation. For instance, I bought it to use on a 1" hole saw as I cut through 6061 T6 aluminum and 1018 mild steel. The 'big plus' about Tap Magic is that it produces very little smoke as your tool and work surface are getting hot. In fact, it produces a lot less smoke than the 'heavy', dark, machining oil that was common in machine shops back in the 1970's. There were several 'heavy' oils typically used back then even though water-soluble oils were getting a good start. Tap Magic is expensive in small quantities but you only need a few drops as you cut. The TM oil contains special ingredients that, among other things, keep the tool and work surface cool. This is incredibly important when cutting most steels. If you’re cutting a mild steel like 4140, (non-heat-treated state), you can quickly work-harden the surface of the material to a state beyond the ability to be cut drilled, or machine in any way by any tool steel cutters at all! This is common if attention is not paid to your ‘feed and speed’, (surface footage rating), for the type of material you’re working with. If the work surface and tool get hot enough, you can wind up with a burnt cutting area that can easily exceed 45RC, C-scale, (very hard and usually, a job for carbide tooling would be used on that hardness rating). Tap Magic helps to keep that from happening but it still requires that you monitor your speed and the feed rate of your cut in such a way as to keep the cutting teeth of the tool under load and NOT allowing it to ‘rub’ which is the first step to a bad day. This product was considered a must have in most machine shops up to the year I got out for good, (2000). I have no doubt that it’s still a popular oil for job shops all over the country, if not the world. With that kind of endorsement, it’s safe to say that this oil is a 5 star product, hands down.

I still haven’t figured out what the difference is between this product and the one that looks like it’s the same bottle but a different price and different part number, the bottle I’m reviewing says “Tap Magic EP-Xtra Forney 20857”. Every application I had planned for it was into a vertical surface, not flat and horizontal, so after reading some reviews saying this stuff is thin like water had me concerned it wasn’t going to work for how I needed to use it. It’s certainly not thick like gear oil consistency like other tap fluids I’ve used, it’s not as thick as motor oil, but it is a little thicker than water. I put some on my drill tip and some on the vertical surface I intended to drill and most of it did run down and off, but some also did stick and it worked amazing. I needed to drill several holes into a very hard frame on my one ton truck. The first hole I attempted was with just any old bit I had on hand, barely scratched the surface, 100 years of drilling and I still wouldn’t have gotten a hole. Second attempt was with the best bit my local hardware store had, I tried wax, motor oil, WD40, I did get a hole in it but it took a lot of effort, so much so that I gave up on my task after just one hole to see if I could find an even better bit on Amazon. What I found was this stuff and I remember seeing it years ago in tool and die shops I’d been in so I ordered it. The word “Magic” in the name is more than just a marketing gimmick, it’s mind blowing what a difference just a little of this stuff made, night and day. If I was a drill bit manufacturer I’d include some of this stuff with every bit I sold, people would think it was my drill bits that were so amazing and would have no idea it was actually this Magic Tap fluid. I completed all my holes with little effort and just one bit.
