Like so many others, I was extremely nervous about purchasing a mattress online. I'm a broke, recently graduated college student. I couldn't afford to buy this mattress, hate it, and then get something else. I also have a bad back (I've been in chiropractic treatment for the last four years) and have been a chronic insomniac since I was 8. I had a Sleep Number mattress for many years, and this memory foam mattress blows it out of the water! FRIMNESS: This is a firm mattress. If you plop down on this mattress, it feels hard at first, and then you sink into it. I needed a firmer mattress for my back, and this is perfect for me. With my Sleep Number bed, I had it set on 50-60 (out of 100, 100 being the firmest possible) and the problem was it wouldn't stay at 50-60. The problem with air beds is that the longer you sleep on them, their ability to hold air depreciates with time. I would have to fill it back up every few days, and it still wasn't giving me the back support I needed. With memory foam, you don't have that problem! It's the same firmness and support every night. The lower curve of my spine is a bit curvier than most people, and lying flat on my back on this mattress it feels completely supported. The foam definitely contours to your body. BAD BACK: I've slept on this mattress for two weeks now. After graduation I moved from NY to TN, a 14 hour drive that I knew was going to murder my back. I shipped this mattress ahead of time to my friend's house and she set it up for me--no chemical smell, and it rose to the full 12 inches within a day. She complained that it was really a two person job but she managed to haul it up the stairs and open it herself. (I bought her beer as a thank you.) On an average night on my Sleep Number bed, I would wake up anywhere from 3 to 5 times a night. On the two weeks I've slept on this mattress, I've woken up no more than once a night, and that's been more about getting used to sleeping in a brand new place. This is a huge, huge, HUGE improvement for me. Last night I went to bed with an aching back from a day of walking around Nashville. I iced a little before I went to sleep, and woke up this morning with my back feeling completely renewed and rested and not achy at all. If you have a lot of mid to lower back pain and are constantly aching after long days of standing/walking, this is a great mattress! HEAT: A huge problem with memory foam is that they can be incredibly hot. I am a person who needs to feel cool or I can't sleep. (Like, 65 degrees in the room kind of cool.) I have noticed some heat with this mattress, but not enough that it's an issue. I sleep with three blankets on me--two quilts, one comforter, and I'm completely comfortable. This may be different depending on what temperature you need to be in order to sleep comfortably, but I imagine if I ever got too hot just removing a blanket would fix that problem. SHEETS: This mattress does not require deep-pocket sheets. MONEY: I had budgeted $300-400 for a new mattress. Like I said, broke and recently graduated. With tax this came to $328, free shipping. I had a $25 Amazon gift card that brought it down to $303 and I couldn't be happier with the price I paid for such a quality mattress that has been a huge help for my back issues.

We have been using this mattress for a week now, so I now feel comfortable writing an initial review (no pun intended). I like the mattress a lot, I ordered my kids twin inner spring mattresses from Amazon last year, so the rolled up vacuum packed mattress concept wasn't the novelty it was then, but was still kind of cool. Naturally the mattress is a bit heavy, my very healthy 19 year old son and I had no problem carrying it (still in the box) to my bedroom, we had more trouble carrying the old pillow top mattress out. The box has a cartoon of a tiny female loading the mattress in its box into her Mini and carrying it into her house, she must be a very strong woman, she would have to be to accomplish this by herself. Anyway, the mattress unrolled and inflated without issue, and didn't even have wrinkles on the cover. Once inflated and ready, we put the same sheets we used on our old pillow top on it, and they fit very well, and were easier to get the corners pulled down than the old mattress. We reused our old (very high quality, very good condition) box spring, and it doesn't seem to be a problem with this mattress at all. I have never used a memory foam mattress before, aside from trying them out in a couple of stores (After laying down on one I was hooked). I have always preferred a very firm mattress, my wife prefers a soft mattress, so we have never been able to find one that was just right for both of us, until now. The first few nights I was a little off put by the feeling when you first lay down on the mattress, it felt kind of mushy (remember, I like a very firm mattress), but once you lay down the mushy feeling goes away and everything feels nice and firm, not hard, and certainly not lumpy, just nice and firm, once you have sank down into it and it contours to your body, the feeling is hard to describe, but it is very comfortable and pleasant. My wife also really likes the mattress. We have both been sleeping better, and I wake up feeling more rested. Our old mattress wasn't completely worn out, but it was showing its age at eight years, and my wife was starting to complain. It wasn't until I slept on the new mattress that I realized how bad the old one was. I have minor back issues, and the old mattress wasn't helping matters, the new one does help them, since getting it I have been waking up feeling great. I had been waking up with minor pain in my back, and my knees and shoulders feeling a little stiff and aching a bit, I just chalked it up to getting older (I am 41, and have lived an action packed life, never holding back physically), but since changing mattresses I have felt great in the morning. I didn't realize it at first, I just woke up and went about my routine (I am not a morning person), a couple of days later I realized that when I stood up after drinking my cup of coffee that my back wasn't aching, and my knees weren't cracking, I also noticed that my shoulders felt fine. I won't say it was a life changing experience, it wasn't. What it was was a good reminder that you spend a huge part of your life in your bed, and compared to what you get out of it a few bucks more or less on a mattress is nothing, and with the prices for this mattress there is no reason to accept a worn out or poor quality mattress. My only concern is longevity, neither my wife or I are that overweight (I have to admit to suffering a bit of middle age spread, but no more than 20 pounds), so I would expect a quality inner spring mattress to last 6-10 years, and would like to think I will get that much out of this mattress, but if I don't I won't be upset, the price is half of what I expect to pay for a lower end quality traditional mattress, so if I replace it after three years, I will still be ahead, four years or more and it is still a bargain. I still have a few questions about this mattress, and concerns, but won't know the answers for a while. It is February in East GA, the weather is cool, so I wouldn't be able to tell you if it holds too much heat until later in the spring. I honestly don't know how it will hold up over time, but I do know this, if it is still performing like it does now in two years, I will almost certainly replace it with another one just like it, if it lasts three years I promise you I will replace it with the same model. However it works out, I will update this review for better or worse. UPDATE Nearly three years later and I am still happy. One side is starting to get worn out, but that is my fault, I haven't rotated the mattress a single time, I don't think it would be an issue if I had. After a couple of long hot summers I have no complaints of the mattress being too hot. When it is time to replace it, I will get another memory foam, maybe this same model.

UPDATE 5/5/2016 I have spent a considerable amount of time sleeping on this bed now. And I am sad to say that the lower back pain problem has not only NOT subsided, it has gotten WORSE! If I can manage to sleep through the night (which I often can't) I wake up in so much pain that I have a difficult time getting out of bed and getting dressed! This bed is too firm with little give. I expected that after sleeping on it for a while it might soften up but this has not been the case. There is none of that "hugged by a cloud" soft comfort I was expecting. And like I said, I like a decently firm mattress, but this is just too much. At this point I'm considering going back to an air mattress because I can't afford to replace this bed yet. I really wanted to love this bed, but I can't deal with this back pain. My boyfriend also wakes up in pretty bad pain when he sleeps on it, though lately he's been sleeping on the couch because he hates it. While this bed can be a great deal, and it seems to work well for a LOT of people, it's just causing me too much back pain to continue sleeping on. Also, I don't know if this makes a difference or not, but it NEVER expanded to the full 12 Inches. I have changed my rating to one star as a result. Feb 22, 2016 This bed went down to about $288 and since I have been sleeping on either a pullout couch or an air mattress since I moved into a new apartment, I figured it was the perfect time to get a new bed. I've had numerous memory foam mattresses in my wishlists for a while now, so I've been trying to keep an eye on pricing and reviews, which led me to believe this bed would be a good purchase for me. The bed is rolled up in a big box which is kind of cumbersome for one person to deal with but it isn't anything too horrible (because I made my BF do it). It definitely wouldn't stop me from purchasing again. The bed was unrolled on a frame that I purchased (which arrived the same day) and was super flat when it was unrolled. I was worried about it not expanding even close to the 12 inch mark. 24 hours later it was at 10 1/2 inches, 48 hours later and it's holding steady at 11 inches. The bed didn't smell or anything so that was good. I'm a little unhappy that it didn't seem to hit the full 12 inches. One thing that I did notice though is HOLY COW THIS THING IS SOOOOO ROCK HARD. I like firm beds, but wow, this bed is super hard. I think I read that after a while it might soften a bit, so that will be good.. because while I like firm beds, my BF absolutely doesn't. He's pretty cranky about this one, in fact. In my opinion, the bed is VERY COMFORTABLE to fall asleep on, but for me, waking up is awful. I had a similar 12 inch memory foam before I moved and it did wonders for my back. So far when I wake up on this one I have some pretty bad lower back stiffness. I'm hoping that this will correct itself over time. Also, I know this is probably more the frames fault than the mattress but it slips around so much on the frame it drives me crazy. I'm not sure if it's because there is a weird backing on the bed that makes it much more prone to slippage, but this bed absolutely will not stay in place on the frame. If you even sort of lean against it, it moves. I tried to sit down on it and it slipped backwards and I almost ended up sitting on the frame itself. Now, I've only had the bed a very short amount of time, so I'll update it after a while. I had some issues with other memory foam mattresses where the top layer pulls up at the corners after a few months, and I'm hoping that this one wont do that.

First review 4/1/2014.... We have only owned this bed for approx a month. Although I will come back and update as much as possible because it is a very awesome bed . First let me say it is very important to know the background of the person's bed history to determine wiether thier review is a justifiable review to use for your choice or basis of purchasing a bed. Also the time they have owned it or used the product is also important. So with that said . First off I have never owned a memory foam bed prior to this one or known anyone who has. But I can tell you I am glad I own one now. If you are trying to decided to go with a traditional spring mattress or a full memory foam. I would never go spring again after sleeping on this bed. My husband and I both love this bed. We have three children and tend to have stayed up late for years and never get to sleep in. My body has worked like a clock for 10 + years and I have always woke up promptly at 6:00 a.m. After sleeping one night on this bed I was so refreshed and slept in which I have not done in years . This bed is the best sleep experience I have ever had I could sleep 8 hours or as little as five hours on this bed and it will have us feeling well slept and refreshed every time. We are both average size people 5'6 and 5'8 and approx 170 lbs each and we both have plenty of room in the queen size. You must keep note that it is a very firm bed even with the memory foam that molds to you. So if you don't like a firm sleep its not for you. I didn't know what I liked prior to owning it but I would think firm is best with memory foam. So far as the way the product came... This was also a new experience for me. It came just as described rolled up in a duffle bag and vacuum packed in plastic . It was a little heavy but it wasn't unmanageable. Lots of people are claiming that the bed is very heavy after unpacking although it is very easy for us to move and adjust. It fluffed right up as soon as we opened it from about 1 inch to 12 in front of your eyes, it was a pretty cool experience( IF YOUR KINDA NERDY) . Some other reviews spoke of a smell that needed to be aired out it did have that plastics new smell for a couple days but it wasn't to unbearable and we opened a window for about a half a day and it was fine. They do recommend for maximum life you should let the bed fluff up for approx 48 hours. We did that prior to getting on it but it appeared to be ready after just the first night. The time of shipping from this seller was also very fast for a package of this size. (approx a week and a half). We received a text the minute it was dropped at the door so we could get it and not leave it laying there all day it was pretty cool instant gratification. If your going to use this bed on a slate frame or other you will need some veneer platform pieces or something all one piece. Logically it will sink through slates. I also shopped and read reviews for about two weeks prior to this purchase and this one had all the good reviews and was priced very well for what we got. I will join the group of reviewers that recommends this bed to the highest rating in every way. It is probably the best bed I have ever slept on or will ever sleep on for years Oh yes P.S. if you have kids that are younger and you constantly have to say get off my bed !! Dont jump on it, you'll ruin it!! Dont worry you will not have that issue with a memory foam mattress because there are no spring or bounce. Jumping on the bed is not fun anymore !!! That is a plus for me all the way around. We will return in about a year to give an updated review....

I bought the 12" in September of 2013 when I weighed 330lbs and I am only 5' 8" tall. It felt GREAT for the first 6 months albeit a little SOFT, but weighing 330lbs I accepted it and then it started to sag a bit. So, I started adding Cardboard and Plywood underneath of it and that helped a lot. I have lost weight and now weigh 280lbs. and the added materials no longer help with the Mattress right side up. So, I turned the mattress over so that the regular FIRM Support Base Foam side is up and still have all the Cardboard and Plywood underneath it and it feels GREAT again. Nice and FIRM!! The issue now is HEAT and trying to find something to put between the mattress and sheets so that it will not be so hot. This mattress slept HOT to me from day one even with a thicker mattress pad. So I put my Goose Down Duvet under that mattress pad and that helped with the Heat issue. Not so much help now that the regular foam side is up. Even when new, sex on this was NOT as nice as on an inner spring mattress. Now that I have turned it over and am using it WRONG it is FINE for sex. Look CLOSELY to the Product Picture above of the woman pressing her hand into the top of the Mattress. That is quite a bit of sinking for just a hand pressing down from her position. That is a VERY good representation of the Memory Foam side of this mattress. It supports WELL when your body is spread out on it. Like being FLAT on your BACK. But, if you are a SIDE sleeper like me you will SINK down in this mattress with the Memory Foam side up. Base Support Foam side up and it supports me like a nice FIRM Inner Spring Mattress. So, I will solve the heat issue and use this for another few years before replacing it. After 3 years of using I would say that for the money this is a decent Memory Foam Mattress. I personally will NEVER buy another Memory Foam mattress again. I like a Firmer Mattress and bought this memory foam mattress based on reviews complaining of it being too firm. I think those reviewers must have had the mattress wrong side up to begin with. lol To anyone who has or gets this mattress and finds it is too soft for them, I would suggest flipping it over to the wrong side up and it will be about 2 to 3x as firm but MUCH hotter. With the mattress WRONG side up it deflects/dents about 2 inches when both of my knees are on it. The memory foam side deflects/dents almost 5 inches when kneeling on it. (Keep in mind that this is with Plywood and Cardboard underneath of it on a Box Spring Base. About 4 inches worth.) Bottom line, I'm glad only spent $300 to try a Memory Foam Mattress and not over $1,000 on some other brand that is NOT any better than this mattress. In the realm of Memory Foam Mattresses I doubt that you could find one much better than this Mattress. UPDATE: 5-27-2017 I have lost even more weight and weigh 256lbs. now. This mattress has become unusable. I took the Memory foam layer off it and tried using just the dense foam core. It is OK for about 3 minutes, but once the foam gets warm from body heat it begins to sink and it has a permanent indentation in the center of it. My back cannot take it any longer. It was put out to the curb/trash 2 days ago. I am now sleeping directly on my foundation while waiting for my new Inner Spring Mattress to arrive. I put a 4" thick Pool Side Chase Lounge Cushion and 2" thick Foam Exercise Pad on the foundation with my Goose Down comforter over that and for the last 2 days my BACK has been doing the Happy Dance. LOL I live in Florida and some other reviews have pointed out that HUMIDITY affects the Firmness of the Foam in this mattress. Once I opened up the permanent mattress cover and took the layers apart, there are only TWO layers......8" High Density (Which squashed down to just 1.5" with my hands pressing it together.) and the 4" Memory foam which (That even when folded over 4x on itself i.e. 16".....squashed down to less than 1/2" when I laid on it.) make up the 12" total height, I found that there was literally ZERO support in these materials after 3 years of use. Bottom line: I see they want over $500 for this mattress now....DO NOT BUY IT!!! For HALF the money I suggest you give something like this a try instead..... Zinus Sleep Master Euro Box Top Classic Spring 12 Inch Mattress, Queen This comes with a 10 year warranty and the company has been actively answering and helping customers for the last 5 years and as current as yesterday on several sites from my research. This Signature Sleep Mattress only has a 1 year warranty and most of the positive reviews for this thing are owners of it for less than a year.
