Got this for my grandson and it was such a hit. The magnetic pieces are a really nice touch — nothing sliding off the board or getting knocked over and lost, which is huge when you’re playing with a kid. Solid wood construction, feels sturdy and well-made, not flimsy at all. Magnets are strong enough to keep pieces in place but not so strong it’s annoying to move them. Two games in one (chess and checkers) means more bang for your buck.Folds up nicely for storage or travel, so it’s easy to bring along anywhere. Looks great too — has that classic wooden game look, not cheap-feeling plastic. He was so excited to learn chess with it, and honestly the quality made it feel like a special gift rather than just another toy. Easy to set up right out of the box too. If you’re looking for a gift for a kid (or honestly anyone who enjoys chess/checkers), this is a great pick. Built to last and just genuinely fun to use. Great quality, great gift, would 100% buy again.

My eleven year old daughter has been playing chess for awhile now on a inexpensive starter chess set. I feel she is finally ready to graduate to a nicer set now that she knows the basics, as she just joined the chess and garden club at school. We wanted a wooden combo set (chess and checkers) that would travel well, with magnetic pieces that wouldn't blow over outside in the wind or fall over when the board was bumped, wooden board and pieces vs cardboard and plastic, etc. I am so impressed with this combo set!!! I literally LOVE the feel of the wood on this board. Exactly as described. Beautifully made. The checkers stack wonderfully when kinged. Magnets are strong. Simple but elegant pieces. Felt backing on the undersides of all the pieces. The custom cut foam is very heavy duty, expertly cut, and holds all the pieces in place well. Love that the pieces don't bang around while in transit. We have already played many games since its arrival. Such a wonderful Valentine's Day gift.

We have had this game for almost 2 years now and it is still in great condition. Magnetic pieces are easy to play with. Definitely worth the price!

Before opening and using the product, the packing was fabulous all on its own. I bought this as a birthday gift and was very impressed with the appearance. You receive game instructions for chess and checkers, a postcard, and warranty card. As you can see from the photos, all pieces for both games were in and accounted for. When setting up a game for chess, there were two extra queen pieces. The magnets worked perfectly for the game- as you can see, you can tilt to board and the pieces don’t fall off but may slide a little. This makes it good for traveling and getting bumped a little without all the pieces falling and ruining the game. The top of the board does easily get scratched up on surfaces though so be careful and handle with some care. I got sold on this board because of the price range (such a good deal being that cheap with all the stuff you get), good for all ages, small and compacted, sturdy, and very detailed with design! For the price I would recommend purchasing for you or as a gift!

Overall, I am very happy with the purchase and would definitely recommend it for anyone looking to improve their enjoyment of either game. It feels like it will provide years of entertainment and will make game play more enjoyable than using a basic cheap plastic set. This set is very well crafted and feels rather refined, especially when compared to having played on cheap plastic sets for quite a while. The felt covered magnetic bottoms of the pieces allow for smooth movement and work well to keep pieces from shifting around when you play on a surface that may move or if you need to relocate the game to a different area for some reason during play. Delivery was quick, although it was shipped in an unpadded plastic bag. These are 'very' hit/miss when it comes to damaging the product as each delivery experience is different, so I feel I got lucky on this one - no damage. But I would recommend to the seller / shipper that they use a padded plastic bag at least. Unfortunately, I cannot give this product a 5-star rating. The metal clasps protrude slightly on the bottom on the sides of the board when setup for play. Not an issue if you plan to use it on carpet or any surface you don't care about, but if you put it on a nice tabletop, use caution as you risk damaging or scratching that table due to the metal nubs on one side and the corners of the clasps that stick out slightly beyond the base of the wooden box - about 1/8 of an inch. This is the main reason for docking it a star. Additionally, I feel it should be mentioned that if you want to play checkers you will need to remove the chess pieces from the foam cutouts because the board will not lie flat with them still in the holders. Not a huge deal, but it is something I was not aware of. This means having to store the chess pieces to the side or in the cardboard product box vs the game itself. Sort of depreciates the nice foam holders that keep the pieces neatly organized and separated so they don't get damaged by clinking around in the box. I had the impression you could leave pieces in the foam cutouts.

It was a gift to my Grandson & he Loves it.

We wanted a travel capable chess and checkers set to take on RV camping trips to play with our grandsons. This one fits very well. Large enough but not so large it takes too much space and is unwieldy to pack in the camper. Magnetic sets are great for the young ones. Grandsons love it!!

I am very satisfied. I bought it for my ten year old granddaughter who is just learning chess. I wanted a magnetized board to avoid the problem of pieces inadvertently being knocked over. (I remembered having a magnetized board when I was a boy.) The board looks great and is well made. A great featire is the inner storage of the pieces in the board. The board folds and the pieces are stored in it. It also includes pieces for checkers. However, as noted in some other reviews, some of the checkers are not magnetized properly. This makes crowning kings a problem at times. It isn't a big problem that should discourage you from buying the board, but it is a design flaw. Another design flaw is one must take out the larger chess pieces in order to have the board lie flat for checkers. This is an easily surmountable problem and is not a reason to not buy the board. I will note the board was delivered in less than twelve hours from the time I ordered it. I anticipate this board will last a lifetime. I will note it is suitable for both children and adults. Finally, I will note you can purchase a board for ten or fifteen dollars cheaper and for much more money. I know of no reason to either spend less nor to spend more.

The product was good and in excellent condition, with all the proper packaging intact. My grandson and son-in-law were very happy with the set and immediately played with it. The only thing I am not happy about it is that we need to take out all the chess pieces in order to play the checkers. It says 2 in 1 game but apparently playing the checkers will not work if the chess pieces are stored back in the board.
